Sent messages to both sellers. We'll see...

Bodhi did mine work?

As far as these units being acquired cheaply there's a lot of angles to try.
Too bad we don't have a group like Save the Geeks where a company could get a tax adjustment for donating to us.

So far as far as I know, 50% were DOA anyway. If these were to be setup like Pogoplug I'd seriously want 1-3 more. Even one more would give me some confidence you only have in comparing.

* and I lament why strong Allies like US/UK don't have shipping prices like China and US. I'd send friends in UK stuff all the time but it costs more than the stuff in the first place!

Joey,

No it did not. If kwboot was successful in sending the image, you should have seen this:

Thanks!
Try 1: I only got as far as some modem X error, but it's stopped responding so much and down to a No such file or directory message.

I don't want to rain on the parade, but has anyone considered maybe these are junk? The DOA numbers are pretty high at this point.

It is getting to the junk status :)

But you should be able to kwboot it. Since your serial console is working.

The SD Card is an old 2GB thing and I have no idea why no results.
I also tried setting the lock switch the other way and same result.
Anything else you'd like tried? I tried a crude attempt at pinging my router and it said "No Link on egiga0' and ***ERROR 'ipaddr' not set.

As I suspect the soldered pins aren't stable I'll be around for a couple hours tonight and hopefully try whatever you ask for.

-update: off to bed, hope to have helped. This thing looks so promising sometimes.

Good job Joey!

I suspect that using a different SD card might help u-boot detecting it.

Regarding the ping, you need to set ipaddr to the plug ip address (anything in your subnet, e.g. 192.168.0.99) before any network action such as ping. However, I still see the "PHY reset timed out" so it is not working anyway, unless the ethenet cable is not connected, is it? if it was not, try connect to one port and then the other, each time do a ping.

Please try this new version. I've added more Ethernet code.

- kwboot the box with this new version, as before, interrupt serial console and

Test 1
setenv ipaddr xxx.xxx.x.xx
ping <your router IP>

Test2
setenv ipaddr xxx.xxx.x.xx
setenv eth1addr <the MAC address of the 2nd port>
setenv ethact egiga1
ping <your router IP>

Please post the serial console log here.

----

Nevermind. I'll re-upload the 2.4 version image later. Found a bug!

Yeah the Ethernet was connected. I'm going to run errands but just for the sake of precision, my router's ip is 192.168.178.1 and the address reservation for ON100 LAN port is set to 192.168.178.110
So if you say "xxx.xxx.etc" that's what I'll put in - lol Oh I do have the mac addresses handy. OK off to the races and hopefully have some fun later. See if I can find a better SD card.

Also I re-tried usb start with same result and and a different (newer) SD card and got same result for "mmc rescan"

Joey,

A friendly suggestion and a nitpick: you have a "bad" habit ;) in that you update the post, instead of posting a new one. A lot of time people (eg. yours truly) don't know there is update because it does not get flagged as something new by the forum with a red indicator.

My other post I thanked you for ergonomics but forgot the message which was don't do that if it's not quoted.

Oh well my head's still in the clouds trying to figure out what to run on the ON100 if someday it gets alive. The specs indicate it could do an OwnCloud or something on that order, anything that barely ran on an E02 should have a significant boost. It's my super E02.

Thanks Joey! Chalk up MMC as working, too.

Try to list content of both drives:

usb start
ext2ls usb 0:1 /

mmc rescan
ex2ls mmc 0:1 /

The USB stick must be a backup for Pogoplug, but I have no idea what's what with the SDcard. Possible it's the SDCard with backup for Pogo4 even for all I know. Also when it comes to "ex2ls" I frequently confuse the number 1 with lowercase L's. So tried both.

No idea what's on the SD card but it for sure works.

Hey Bodhi I tried a new USB stick newly formatted to FAT32, and the old god-knows-what's-on-it 2GB SDCard.
Results:

I only have one "normal" computer here with SDcard management so I'll get to it at some point.

Of course, the drive is FAT. And the command is ext2ls, which works for ext2 and ext3, not FAT.

OK Bodhi,
* I formatted the SD card as Ext2
* Formatted the USB stick as Ext3.

Here's the output including ... see up above you both gave me commands for extls as well as exls.

ON100_K9> usb start
starting USB...
USB0: USB EHCI 1.00
scanning bus 0 for devices... 2 USB Device(s) found
scanning usb for storage devices... 1 Storage Device(s) found
ON100_K9> ext2ls usb 0:1 /
** Invalid partition 1 **
ON100_K9> mmc rescan
** First descriptor is NOT a primary desc on 0:1 **

MMC rescan: current device # 0 initialized OK
ON100_K9> ex2ls mmc 0:1 /
Unknown command 'ex2ls' - try 'help'
ON100_K9> ext21s[3~[3
Unknown command 'ext21s[3~[3' - try 'help'
ON100_K9> ext21s mmc 0:1 /
Unknown command 'ext21s' - try 'help'
ON100_K9>

Like I said, when "ex2ls" failed I tried the other one with a "t" in it.

-update I see errors, one sec

I started fresh and tried again. Bodhi I'm not sure if you made a little typo up there with the ex2ls after the mmc command, but I tried it both ways once the first one didnt' result anything meaningful.

ON100_K9> usb start
starting USB...
USB0: USB EHCI 1.00
scanning bus 0 for devices... 2 USB Device(s) found
scanning usb for storage devices... 1 Storage Device(s) found
ON100_K9> ext2ls usb 0:1 /
** Invalid partition 1 **
ON100_K9> mmc rescan
** First descriptor is NOT a primary desc on 0:1 **

MMC rescan: current device # 0 initialized OK
ON100_K9> ex2ls mmc 0:1 /
Unknown command 'ex2ls' - try 'help'
ON100_K9> ext2ls mmc 0:1 /
** No partition table - mmc 0 **
ON100_K9>

I'm pretty burned out for the day but if there's any last minute items, I might be up.

This is because the USB is FAT32. ext2ls works for ext2 or ext3 file system, but not FAT32.

Again, this is probably because the file system on this SD card.

OK last try for today.
* Both USB stick and SD card are formatted Ext2 now
* Previous USB stick was found to be intermittent and replaced.

ON100_K9> usb start
starting USB...
USB0: USB EHCI 1.00
scanning bus 0 for devices... 2 USB Device(s) found
scanning usb for storage devices... 1 Storage Device(s) found
ON100_K9> ext2ls usb 0:1 /
** Invalid partition 1 **
ON100_K9> mmc rescan
** First descriptor is NOT a primary desc on 0:1 **

MMC rescan: current device # 0 initialized OK
ON100_K9> ex2ls mmc 0:1 /
Unknown command 'ex2ls' - try 'help'
ON100_K9> ext2ls mmc 0:1 /
** No partition table - mmc 0 **
ON100_K9>

Doing the best I can bodhi; from flaky USB sticks to locked SD cards with wrong format, I'm trying to work the testing bugs out here and unfortunately have a ways to go. Looking forward to Ray's results.

Thanks Joey! both USB and MMC are working. The errors you've seen were with the format of the drives.

Please try this 2.5 version. I've added Ethernet code.

- kwboot the box with this new version, as before, interrupt serial console and

Test 1: try 2 tests, with ethernet cable connected to MON port, and then LAN port
version
setenv ipaddr xxx.xxx.x.xx
setenv ethaddr <the MAC address of the 1st port>
ping <your router IP>

Test 2: try 2 tests, with ethernet cable connected to MON port, and then LAN port
version
setenv ipaddr xxx.xxx.x.xx
setenv eth1addr <the MAC address of the 2nd port>
setenv ethact egiga1
ping <your router IP>

Please post the serial console log here.

Update:

Actually there are 4 tests above :)) I meant that I'm not sure which one is which in the stock u-boot PHY's code for Ethernet. So the tests will tell me whether what I'm doing is correct, as far as the PHY addresses are concerned.
