Hello.

Since a lot of days I am try installing an ZD1211 Wifi Stick on my Dockstar. I didn´t get it working with Debian Squeezy.

I had installed the firmware ZD1211 from the Debian Repository.

servicedock:~# uname -a
Linux servicedock 2.6.33 #2 PREEMPT Tue Mar 2 14:27:17 MST 2010 armv5tel GNU/Linux

servicedock:~# lsusb

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

servicedock:~# lsmod

sha1_generic 1693 4
ppp_mppe 5707 2
ppp_async 6789 1
ppp_generic 21012 6 ppp_mppe,ppp_async
slhc 4559 1 ppp_generic
tun 10610 2

mv_cesa 4714 0
sata_mv 25707 0

If Plugin in the Stick the system will not detect the stick. In dmesg he will be shown. But:

servicedock:~# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

ppp0 no wireless extensions.

tun0 no wireless extensions.

If I load the Zd1211 Firmware I get the ERROR:
servicedock:~# modprobe zd1211rw
FATAL: Module zd1211rw not found.

Is there anyone who could help me?

You mention that dmesg shows something regarding the USB stick. What specifically does it show in dmesg, regarding that USB device?

Which firmware package did you install?

Have you tried a newer kernel?

BTW, on your Dockstar, what is the output of:
ls -R /lib/modules/ | grep zd
That should show a few things like zd1211rw.ko .

Hello.

dmesg show me only this line:
usb 1-1.4: new high speed USB device using orion-ehci and address 5

I have installed thsi driver from the Debian Repository
servicedock:~# dpkg -l | grep zd1211
ii zd1211-firmware 2.21.0.0-1 Firmware images for the zd1211rw wireless driver

I´m a little bit scared trying a new kernel.

Your Command shows nothing. Where can I get the Modules?
servicedock:~# ls -R /lib/modules/ | grep zd
servicedock:~#

Thanks for your help.

good news - zd1211 chipset works great on dockstars

steps:
1) update to Gorgone's kernel
2) install firmware v1.4
3) configure /etc/network/interfaces & reboot

or... try the scripts I used on my dockstars (see: http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/lcd/)

As root:
1) install Gorgone's kernel (includes zd1211 driver)
wget http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/lcd/setup_kernel.sh
chmod +x ./setup_kernel.sh
./setup_kernel.sh # follow instructions
2) install zd1211 firmware & configure basic /etc/network/interfaces
wget http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/lcd/setup_wlan.sh
chmod +x ./setup_wlan.sh
./setup_wlan.sh # follow instructions
3) reboot

Disclaimer: I haven't run these in over a year so make a backup first and use at your own risk.
