No Download from Drobox?
July 10, 2014 02:07PM
Hey davygravy/Jeff/bodhi, first thanks for all your work.

Now i got some problem to download the rootfs from dropbox

After i tried to download with:
wget -c http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/1...-bodhi.tar.bz2

i got the error message:

Connecting to dl.dropboxusercontent.com (184.72.246.204:80)
wget: not an http or ftp url: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/...-bodhi.tar.bz2

i´m using your Alarm Rescuesystem v2.8.2(in nand) on Pogo E02, and all went fine until the last month....
any ideas?

Cu joerg_999

joerg_999,

Your download link seems incompleted. Which rootfs are you trying to download?

Hello bodhi, the link i used was correct it was only shortened by copy into this text.

The full link i used was:
wget -c http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/16r9mv9nfh9so3j/Debian-3.14.0-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2

the fully error message:

Connecting to dl.dropboxusercontent.com (184.72.246.204:80)
wget: not an http or ftp url:https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/16r9mv9nfh9so3j/Debian-3.14.0-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2

maybe a problem with the ca-certificates or the "https" in rescuesystem which i´m not able to identify/update (nandflash).
you get nearly the same error when you use old certificates in Debian and try a kernelupdate.

In Debian you can solve the problem with: apt-get install ca-certificates and everything is fine, but with my knowlege i´m not able to do the similary in rescuesystem or Pogo OS (the 2nd isn´t realy necessary for me)

My temporarily solution is to download the rootfs to PC an put it on Pogo via WinSCP but the final solution should be to do this with
onboard-stuff (wget......) from the rescuesystem.

PS: NetCat is configured correctly and serial console via TTL/USB Adapter are also possible and known stuff for me.
( for experimental editing in boot-vars )

You could remount the root as rw and install new packages. But as it is a rescue system in NAND, I would not recommend changing anything to make it nicer! It's a recovery mechanism, after all.
mount -o remount,rw /

bodhi maybe you´r right,
but i thought there is an easy way to get the "wget" funktion work proper with dropbox (because it did work correctly until last month) or any other secure download even if u use Arch Linux as an rescuesystem in nand.
This often is the start scenario when you beginn to install a Linux stick.

This makes me think the rescue system should be on a stick too. Or also use the unmodified Debian basic rootfs as a type of rescue system (it'd work if the problem is not with u-boot envs).

FYI - the issue is that recently dropbox changed something on their end where all http urls are redirected to https urls. The wget provided by busybox (used by the default Pogoplug OS), doesn't support https/ssl. If you're running debian/alarm you can download the full wget.

I tried opening a ticket with Dropbox on this issue and got an automated reply, which I found a little amusing:

Thanks for writing in. While we'd love to answer every question we get, we unfortunately can't respond to your inquiry due to a large volume of support requests. Here are some resources for resolving the most common issues:

I ended up rehosting my files on one of my VPS so that I can provide a direct http access.

OK, if Pogo OS doesn´t work, no problem, i don´t use it, but unfortunately ArchLinuxArm used in nand (Rescue System V2.8.2) also want work with https downloads since the changes by dropbox one month ago.
If you use Debian from stick, no problem at all. (Alarm from usb stick i didn´t try).

On you ALARM system, install wget - pacman -Sy wget

BTW, does anyone have a recommendation for a free http only file hosting service? Does Google, Dropbox, Box.net or MS provide http file hosting?

On Alarm System in nand there is no paketmanager (pacman), maybe to less space......

Sorry, you mentioned ArchLinuxArm and then Rescue System v2.8.2 so I was a little confused. The rescue system is actually based on Debian not ALARM.

Doesn't look like the rescue system has apt-get or the ability to install additional packages. Davy's rescue system is tiny, <32MB so probably the limiting factor.

Sorry for my mistake, i realy thought Rescue System V2.8.2 is based on Arch Linux.... (i should read more exactly)
Thank´s for the lesson.
