Utility to control A10 displays

I've created a very simple utility to turn on/off the various displays. Source here, binary here.

Usage

a10_display <hdmi|vga|tv|lcd> <on|off|mode> [mode_number]

Modes

HDMI has no settable modes that I could find in the header. This utility will not prevent you from setting HDMI modes, but you do so at your own risk.

VGA Modes:
0 = 1680x1050
1 = 1440x900
2 = 1360x768
3 = 1280x1024
4 = 1024x768
5 = 800x600
6 = 640x480
7 = 1440x900 RB (not yet supported, according to header comments)
8 = 1680x1050 RB (not yet supported, according to header comments)
9 = 1920x1080 RB
10 = 1920x1080
11 = 1280x720

LCD Modes
0-15 (brightness control)

TV Modes (according to the header, anyhow. I'm pretty sure analog component out can't push 1080p)
0 = 480i
1 = 576i
2 = 480p
3 = 576p
4 = 720p x 50hz
5 = 720p x 60hz
6 = 1080i x 50hz
7 = 1080i x 60hz
8 = 1080p x 24hz
9 = 1080p x 50hz
10 = 1080p x 60hz
11 = PAL
12 = PAL SVIDEO
14 = NTSC
15 = NTSC SVIDEO
17 = PAL M
18 = PAL M SVIDEO
20 = PAL NC
21 = PAL NC SVIDEO
23 = 1080P x 24HZ x 3D
24 = 720P x 50HZ x 3D
25 = 720P x 60HZ x 3D

Actually it can do that just fine. The only issue I have noticed is a bit of jitter in the display similar to an old CRT at a low refresh. But that may be an issue with my particular monitor.

The monitor output settings have no issues. You can use 1920 x 1080 just fine with HDMI and VGA. We can't do 1080p video or games in Linux until we get X userspace drivers for the Mali and the Cedar device. But normal desktop apps work just fine.

Oh, I didn't know that.
Is the built-in utility in the Android Settings?

For Linux, this utility is very useful, I guess one can use it before launching X by adding it to rc.local.

the Mele has a resolution settings page in Android settings. I don't remember seeing that on my tablet. That would not be practical for the tablet LCD. But most likely you could use the Mele Android app there to control the HDMI on a tablet. You might need to copy files from a Mele or recompile the tablet Android to get it to work. There will probably be an app for tablets eventually if there is not already.

I have not tried Jeff's utility. But I'm certain such a utility could be created for userspace Linux if nothing currently available works. In the meantime Jeff's utility is valuable for those that have an old crappy monitor that won't auto adjust. I think the mele script.bin on ICS is 1080p or close. That should be adequate for most people with a decent monitor or TV.

What parameters exactly do I have to use for that?
I have a DVI-D monitor connected to HDMI via adapter plug, but the monitor barely syncs to 720p (and nothing else).
So I'd like to have VGA resolutions on HDMI.

What parameters should I use?

Hello Jeff, this utility is not working properly for me (Ainol Novo 7 Elf).
Irrespective to whether it is inherent to lcd, any parameter I use sets lcd to full white, while I am interested in turning down brightness.

I use a 3.0.42 kernel (more precisely, this one: http://tinycorelinux.net/4.x/armv7/src/).

I live in Argentina an here the tv support only PAL-NC and NTSC but so far devices like cameras, phones and my mele a3700 only support PAL-N (i see it without color) and NTSC (with color but with borders cropped) now i was able to set it to PAL-NC and now i see the full image in colors !!!!! Thanks.

is it possible to set a custom resolution?
I'd like to use this in a Pandora's Box loaded with Retroarch to switch resolutions on the fly to have games' video output at pixel perfect resolution and refresh.
