OK have my usb ready to go.
It doesnt boot to debian because I think I need to interrupt u-boot count down as per https://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,102054,105374#msg-105374
So I guess that means resolder my serial port connections?
I dont think I can get netconsole on stock?

Yes. If you want to boot Debian with stock u-boot then you need serial console.

Right. Stock u-boot does not have netconsole.

So if you install new u-boot while inside stock OS, you can set up netconsole at the same time.
