Do you have serial console connected? if you do, then the serial bootlog is whatever you see in the console after power up.

Netconsole should be on there but certainly not the hardware serial where you hook up TTL or TTY to USB. I've used up one of those solder points. Now if I were to aquire a couple Pogo v4_3's I'd definitly solder headers to use a proper serial and maybe even a switch to turn off the turbo.
Realize where I'm at is four tangents away from the area I'm using this stuff for. I'm not in an area I have strengths but am glad if my Guinea pigging helps in some small way.
If there's a place a log is stored I can get into the Windows machine and WinSCP it out of there. Or give me a code and I'll get a result.
In other news I copied files to and from the Pogo 4 (same USB stick), and copying TO was same speed but FROM seemed really fast, faster than any other Pogo thus far. So, writes: meh, reads : wow fast.
-update- here's a clue though. When starting the Pogo the light is that perfect green, and once it's into the Debian stick it's mostly green-yellow with a trace of red.

Highlights for me included "Write cache: disabled, read cache: enabled" and the word "atomic" LOL
Naw, Un-LOL did I see a bad erase block? This is brand new. Oh well. If I need to start over I could.
Anyways gents I'm really stoked at getting this far, and I'd be shocked if you don't get at least 20MB/sec faster USB 3 transfers and who knows for the SATA part. That's my guess and I can't wait to hear your results. Off to bed here, and tine for a poweroff -h for v4 and let E02's torrents run (ThinClient loves Mint).

On this rootfs, the kernel DTB is for Pogo E02
If the uImage was embedded with this Pogo E02 DTB, then you should regenerate it with the Pogo V4 DTB. OTOH, if uImage was not embedded, but the Pogo E02 DTB was specified separately in u-boot env then, adjust the env to point to the Pogo V4 DTB.

@bodhi - you may need/want to provide copy and past lines for this. Joey said earlier on in the thread that he had to use his trusty thumb drive - which is E02 based, as he had issues when attempting to set the device up with the v4 instructions from Qui's blog

I'm glad that E02 stick saved my hide, but I've pushed my luck this week and behind door number three may be a brick lol
Yeah boot envs.. got a code I'll throw it in. As for more complex operations, I'm not beyond Qui's copy paste level and hope if that image with a bad checksum really is bad and not my fault, I hope he replaces it with something proper.

Pardon me if I veer off topic, but because the stick plugged into the v4 Mobile is from the E02, I still have remote desktop, and WOW this is snappier than even the E02! What I'm getting here is the most fluent desktop pogoplug yet. You guys are going to love the higher clocking. Saved the best for last!
-update yet again- True the XFCE GUI is seamless opening and just being fluid quick. But of course you run out of RAM soon, so maybe the fastest possible swap system can be discussed soon. I was just about stunned to learn this is a single core CPU!

Just a file I've got to edit or what? Or if I took that dropbox file of yours Bodhi, and expanded it to fit into a blank SD card or blank USB stick, would that work (and if so what would the label be?) I'd do that in my more familiar Windows. Sorry I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I just want the light full green lol

Of course, if you are being extra careful then you could clone the current stick to another one to back up before doing the procedure below.
Boot the Pogo V4 with the same stick you are using now.
- Save the Pogo E02 uImage for safekepping
- Generate new uImage for Pogo V4
- Reboot
Check to see if everything is booting correctly (post output of dmesg here)

you know what I forgot.. watt meter before and after clock changes.
So, dug my Rosewill watt meter, and booting-up Pogo Mobile peaks at 4.2 watts, dips to 2.2w and settles in at 3.3w idle with only SDcard and gigabit connected. Add PNY USB 3.0 stick and it's 3.7 watts. Keep that and add Transmission running one torrent of LibreOffice and it goes between 3.8w and 4.7w. So that's the after
.
FWIW I got two drugstore SanDisk 8GB SD cards, probably nothing special but it's a smooth upshift in performance; they copied perfect from laptop with the freeware MiniTool Partition Wizard Home.
Still not sure what to do with this, but with 3 copies of what we did, I can have some fun and consider the E02 Arch stick, or OpenWRT.
As you may know, the prices for the v4 with USB 3 and SATA dock went up to $30, no more $20s. HOWEVER, if there's a project in the future I can collaborate on, some SOC (especially with removable RAM) that has USB 3 and SATA with port multiplication, count me in! A poor man's super Zyxel that can idle on 1-watt (that oven I love, loaded with 4 hard drives, is 24 watts they claim) maybe full blast at 30-ish watts and run an extremely efficient and versatile home NAS. One piece at a time, a nickel here, a dime there.

Regarding Joey's impression about how the overclocked Pogo V4/mobile seems to be more responsive than the Pogo E02, I think not . All peripherals being equal (USB 2.0), the Pogo E02 should win easily with 1.2Ghz speed and 256MB RAM.

Is the RAM faster in the v4? I'm certain the Application menu over RDP is quicker and no mini-pausing like the E02.
On that one admittedly flimsy bit of evidence, I knew I should have done the kind of testing Leggo did when he found the v3 did more calculations than the E02.
OH, NOW I UNDERSTAND... PNY's cheapest, slowest USB 2.0 stick has been running in the E02 for the last two months and a backup copy that ended up in the v4 was a faster (by comparison) SanDisk Glide. That may have skewed my perceptions.

Right on! Desktop GUI uses a lot of memory. So I think swap might have been a factor even with 256MB.
So if the pogo V4 has a SATA HDD for swap then it is likely more responsive than the E02.

You might wonder why I'm using the slowest, cheapest USB stick - I needed to acquire a one-piece 8GB disk image, and my usual SanDisk is 8GB minus the OS and the cheap stick is 16GB. So once the image came in, I thought the only hardship was the average 2MB/sec copying speed to the router's 1 TB drive, it still took over a day to get it on a slow line, so made the decision to pound that PNY 24/7 to see how reliable it is, and it's almost two months now.
But like you're saying, exclusive SSD use will commence pretty soon after large storage is complete, but in the meantime have you seen these $15, 10K RPM little hard drives? Wow.
Hey bodhi, about that GUI desktop, I don't use it much, but it's real handy once ina while. When we log out does to totally revert to before you RDP-ed into it? I've always rebooted, even to save a couple MB of precious RAM, but if there's a command that does the same thing without reboot I'd use it.

I think once the bigger hard drives are installed here it will be SSDs and high end USB sticks from then on. Even high end USB 2.0 because there's some high quality in the haystack. But those $6 PNY 2.0s, while they've served their purpose, need to be phased out ASAP. But there's a huge education running this way for a year and getting to know that specific bottleneck, so it's all well.

No need to reboot, just logging out is enough to shutdown all desktop processes.

No need of the resistor,
if the input pin of the serial port of the pogo v4 is connected to 3.3v when booting as shown in the attached picture.
I also did some testing:
pogo v4 run 1G:
pogo v4 run 800M:
where qm is my program to minimize Boolean function by quasi Quine-McCluskey algorithm.
I found no significant difference of the temperature on the top of the case after overclocking when cpu runs 100% (~100F).

Ought this do tricks for a v3 Pro Black or pink E02 just out of curiosity?
I don't know where to get the 3.3v or I'd dive in the wires right now and find out.

This is a cool deductive reasoning! And this mod will not fry the Pogo V4 serial port with the 3.3V because the 3.3V is connecting to the RX pin on the Pogo V4 serial port (not the 3.3V pin).
