postmarketOS / Alpine Linux

During the Christmas holiday I was doing some IT support for the family and I ended up with a couple of android phones. The phones are quite old and no longer supported by the manufacturer or custom roms so pretty much worthless. The hardware is probably more powerful than the standard kirkwood board so could be an interesting project to run linux on. A quick google shows that there are quite a few people who have tried this with different levels of success. One project which may work for the phones I've got is postmarketOS which is based on Alpine linux. Alpine linux could also be a candidate to install on the internal memory of a kirkwood device since it has a relatively small rootfs. Does anybody have any experience with these distributions?

There are several smart phones not longer used in my "wait for any usesful task" box with electronic gadgets.
But none of them has an host-mode capable usb-port (OTG). That limits the use cases for that kind of smartphones as replacement of Raspberry PI or pimped Kirkwood devices.

But there are some use cases coming in mind

- Operator Panel for Smart Home appliance
- Web Cam
- Wifi/Bluetooth Sniffer
