Nevermind i just installed a new Kernel on the Dockstar which brings a xfs module. But i think i will switch to Arch Linux when i have the time for it. Another question, do you use SMB on your Dockstar, if you do what are your transfer speed with the Ext4 FS?by darkside40 - Debian
Hi there, could please someone post his xfs.ko which should be located in /lib/modules/2.6.32-5-kirkwood/kernel/fs/xfs ? I had a power outage yesterday and now i cant mount my XFS data partition, always when i try i get root@debian:~# mount /dev/sda3 mount: unknown filesystem type 'xfs' I dont know why the xfs FS was deleted, i can only guess that it happened with an apt-get uby darkside40 - Debian
I am always using the development Version (so called Tip Version) of pyload. But i didn't install Pyload via the .deb file provided, i did it the manual way, installing all dependencies mentioned in the pyload wiki by hand, then unzipping pyload to /usr/share/pyload and controlling it via a modified Version of the init script found here http://www.dermute.de/227-debian-als-download-centerby darkside40 - Debian
Hi there, has anyone already compiled Transmission 2.22 (especially transmission-deamon) for the Dockstar? The most "recent" Version, also in Sid, is 2.03-2. Or does anyone has a simple guide how to cross compile such packages and pack it into a .deb file for installation and distribution?by darkside40 - Debian
Okay just did the upgrade. I had to use the two commands but than it worked without any problems. Now i am on stable!by darkside40 - Debian
Hi there, i have installed Debian Squeeze on my Dockstar in October with Jeff's script and hadn't changed anything regarding the Kernel till today. Now i would like to upgrade my debian to the stable Squeeze Release. Is it possible to do a simple apt-get dist-upgrade or would i run into problems with that because of another Kernel etc. Has anybody done that before? Thanks forby darkside40 - Debian
ATV2 needs iTunes as Media Server. It wont work with any Media Server like firefly etc. So if you cant install iTunes on the Dockstar (and no you cant) there is no way Streaming Media from the Dockstar to the ATV 2, you will need a PC or Mac with iTunes installed. I dont know if the ATV 2 supports any other Media Servers via Jailbreak.by darkside40 - Debian
Also OpenVPN has the benefit that you can secure yourself against Firesheep Script Kiddies on Public Wifi's.by darkside40 - Debian
First of all i dont recommend using Samba via Internet because it is kind of an security risk. But if you want to make it accessible from the Internet a portforward for port 445 from your Router to the dockstar should do the job. Anyway it is a security risk, better way would be to use it together with an VPN Network on the dockstar like openvpn or tunneling it via SSH. There are planty guby darkside40 - Debian
It would work but would be a total waste of money. Because of the USB 2.0 interface it could not run at its max speed.by darkside40 - Debian

Hier auch mal die Adresse zu compcache http://code.google.com/p/compcache/ bzw ramzswap wie es jetzt im Kernel heisst. In der aktuellen c't steht auch drin wie man es einrichtet.by darkside40 - Debian
I had an old 1,8" Ipod drive (also a Toshiba) on my Router. Pro: -Quiet -needs less Power than a 2,5" drive -Swap does no damage to it Cons: -expensive if you compare price/capacity against a 2,5" -low transfer rates, at least for mine max. 17MB/s at USB2.0by darkside40 - Debian
Just switching to XFS doesnt do the trick. You have to do all the other steps too.by darkside40 - Debian
Hi there, is there a way to prevent apt from upgrading jeffs Kernel when using apt-get upgrade command?by darkside40 - Debian
With ext3 Power failures shouldn't be a problem anymore because it is a journaling Filesystem. But if you use a USB Stick for Storing your system partition be careful because ext3 puts far more write cycles on your stick than ext2 (because of the journal).by darkside40 - Debian

I found a guide (sorry only German) http://falkhusemann.de/blog/2010/09/maximaldurchsatz-der-modifizierten-seagate-dockstar-optimieren/ and after i did modifications in there i get approx. 28-32MB/s via Samba. Also Samba is now much faster in combination with my MacBook then NFS which does between 18-22MB/s.by darkside40 - Debian
Hi there, i have a small problem with my dockstar, my transfer speeds are much slower than expected. I only get around 5MB/s reading from an Ext3 partition which is on the same Hdd like the system and the swap. It makes no difference if i use Nfs, Samba or Ftp. On a Windows PC the Hdd does 32MB/s. On the Dockstar it is attached to the port next to the GB lan port dont know if this mattby darkside40 - Debian
