Tom, Try using a different USB thumb drive for Debian-4.12.1 rootfs.by bodhi - Debian
These Seagate Backup drives are low cost storage for a reason: performance. If you use it for backup, or streaming music/video, i.e. sequential access, then it is a good solution. However, its performance can't compare to the regular drives that provide better performance for all types of disks access.by bodhi - Off-Topic
Tom, Your current u-boot is quite old and the envs are different from the new u-boot. Try this with both rootfs: 1. Make sure that the /etc/fstab has this line for rootfs: LABEL=rootfs / ext3 noatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1 2. Power up, interrupt netconsole and, setenv usb_set_bootargs 'setenv bootargs console=$console root=LABEL=rootfs rootdelay=$usbby bodhi - Debian

Excerpt from Ref Manual for 6281. Pardon the format! it was copy/pasted from PDF. QuoteBoot from NAND Flash In this boot method, a boot image must be located on the first page of the NAND flash. The stock FW in NAND seems to be corrupted. You can do factory reset: http://support.goflexhome.hipserv.com/en/reflash/index.html QuoteI tried a serial connection but nothing showed up, but eventually I jiggled the wires around which seemed to wake the thing up. Be careful, don't brick another the serial header :) You did not wake it up. The serial connection was not done properly soby bodhi - uBoot
