If you find the header with the correct ptich (I did on a old hard drive), you can also use old sound card to CDROM cables, they have a matching female connector.by metric - uBoot
Thanks Bodhi. I will try that but the device is currently up with the rescue system. I am afraid if I reboot and cannot get uart booting to work, I may have some hardware that cannot even function as a door-stop. Is this correct? Is there something I can try while the machine is up?by metric - uBoot
I was moving away from arch to debian on my goflex home and debootstrap gave me incompatible hardware error. I chaged the arch number to dockstar and that action or something corrupted my environment. I tried to update uboot with Jeff's script and it failed. I also followed Bodhi's thread for manually writing the uboot here. Forum Post Here is my output. Everytime I read uboby metric - uBoot
I connected a port of a powered hub to the Dockstar once and saw it light up. Does anybody know the real circuit inside? Will this work? Any problems? The powered hub can provide 1 AMP from two ports (It is actually Targus USB docking station mentioned on this forum). This will reduce one extra cable on the device and one power brick.by metric - Off-Topic
Just followed the instructions on the site, I am getting following error and it does not run a daemon. (process:824): GStreamer-WARNING **: The GStreamer function gst_init_get_option_group() was called, but the GLib threading system has not been initialised yet, something that must happen before any other GLib function is called. I had the same problem. Ebay vendor was nice and he sent me another cable that worked. in your picture, is the black GND cable solder touching the pad in the next row? (Or the mounting hole?) When you say you tested RS-232, is it 5 volts or 3.3 Volts? Goflex uses 3.3 volts. Did you check the voltage? I have never connected using putty. I use Linux screen command. I am not sure about theby metric - Debian
I have never used the interface that you are using, but I had better luck cutting off CA-42 cable mentioned on the Arch linux link that you mentioned.by metric - Debian
Looks like a good find. Will this replace MPD if DLNA is the only desired source and target?by metric - Debian
How about installing rescue system on the Goflex flash by using usb boot first? Then remove USB, boot from rescue and install Debian on you hard disc. I used the same route when I screwed up my install. I used Davygravy's image on a usb stick. (Link somewhere on this forum) and also installed his rescue version 2.85. BTW If you are good with a soldering iron, install serial headersby metric - Debian
Yes, This helped. Thanks.by metric - Debian
I just installed rescue 2.81 from davygravy. Then tried to install wheezy. I am getting # Starting debootstrap installation E: unrecognized or invalid option --no-check-gpg debootstrap failed. See /tmp/debian/debootstrap/debootstrap.log for more information. Then I tried Jeff's rescue on old dockstar with same drive. Wheezy and squeeze both give me exact same error. *** Following works for squeeze but not for wheezy stock kernels, Realtek drivers are broken, I was able to use these instructions for another ralink card on wheezy and it works fine ****** Finally got it! I am not using ifplugd or wicd. I found this written for Raspberry Pi debian but works for Dockstar standard debian install from Jeff (squeeze) I am using Edimax Technology Co., Ltby metric - Debian
I agree. Jeff has done an excellent job of creating the easy script and supporting the forum.by metric - Debian
I was debugging boot problems on my dockstar and saw UBIFS error (pid 0): ubifs_get_sb: cannot open "ubi:rootfs", error -19 What does this mean? I am running latest rescue system by Jeff. BTW My system is booting now. It had bad value for usb_root=/dev/sda1 I had screwed it up when I was trying to boot from 6-in-1 card reader.by metric - uBoot
I have been busy doing other stuff. I will not be working on my dockstar for a some time. Any way, I am more interested in audio and serial hardware on this device. I do not plan to connect any monitor. At the most, I may run some VNC/NX but not a display directly connected to the device.by metric - Debian
Thanks guys. Got one on ebay. I plan to install mr house X10 firecracker on serial port. (once I fix my wifi issue) I will keep you posted/ask you questions ;-)by metric - Debian
Yes. 2.6.32-5-kirkwood Driver loads, I see wlan0 but it is not getting dhcp address from my router. Is there a newer kernel on the Debian repo or I have to compile it? Or, how about backport kernel update? Is it possible? Never tried backport on a kernel before. Does it work?by metric - Debian
I have the same adapter. Did you figure out a solution?by metric - Debian
I have a dockstar with latest rescue/uboot from Jeff. I am trying to use a CF card connected to a USB multi-flash reader (SD, MMC, CF etc). The system does not see the bootable CF that I created with another CF only reader and boots in to rescue system. (CF boots from that original CF reader but it is USB 1.1 and slow.) On a windows box the CF drive shows up as a third drive on this 6 -in-1 dby metric - uBoot
