No the current default environment (I have done a reset of my environment this morning to check if it implements a sata boot feature) I think p-ata and s-ata are two different kind of IDE. (I'm possibly wrong here) My problem is not booting from s-ata, it's booting from USB when I have a s-ata drive plugged in. When a s-ata drive is plugged in the goflex Home, it take the place ofby ElectronikHeart - uBoot
I'm learning how uBoot works and I don't know what to think of the usb_scan environment variable. Is it for finding the good drive to boot from ? Can we modify it to detect if a s-ata drive is on /dev/sda and then using /dev/sdb1 automatically instead of /dev/sda1 ? If the goflex net is detecting usb as /dev/sda even if a s-ata drive is inserted, can we use the proper Goflex Homeby ElectronikHeart - uBoot
What was the instability with it ? Data corruptions ? Kernel panics ? I will try it on my Goflex Home. I usually use ext4 and btrfs for my text files partitions (autocompression). What should I try ? For my perspective I haven't seen any improvement using XFS over ext4 but I can test it if you want.by ElectronikHeart - Rescue System
I don't know why but uboot was corrupt or at least not able to boot after I installed the old rescue system V2 ... To recover I used a serial cable and I upgraded uboot with the tftp method. Now it's working perfectly ... So I don't really know what appended but this old rescue system seems a little dangerous nowadays. I will try to install Rescue 2.8 now that I have an upgraby ElectronikHeart - Rescue System
I have rescued My Goflex Home with a serial cable so I can now help ^^ I have an old 256 MB USB Key so it should be perfect !by ElectronikHeart - Rescue System
You can control the boot process with netconsole and tweaking Uboot. But you have to use "nc" inside Linux to do it properly. I think you should read the instructions a second time to be sure you don't have missed one step.by ElectronikHeart - uBoot
You tried to boot without the s-ata drive but the usb drive inserted ?by ElectronikHeart - uBoot
Is this flashing method working on every circumstances ? I am trying it with my Goflex Home and nothing at all. My goflex is flashing green then orange and appears to be not able to boot anything (probably a bad uboot configuration but I can't do anything to prove it before I get my hands on a USB serial adapter). I flashed Uboot and tried to install the rescue system v2 (not 2.8) Uby ElectronikHeart - uBoot
Same problem here with the IP address. To workaround that, I've installed avahi-daemon and connect to it with: hostname.local. The default hostname is debian. (ssh root@debian.local work) I think we can set a mac address on Uboot, Is this gonna solve this problem ? To access the s-ata drive you should use a s-ata compatible kernel and set the arcNumber to 3089. Go here for the keby ElectronikHeart - uBoot
They are the new default ? So I already have the last uboot ... How the rescue system work ? What kind of uboot environment modification is he doing that prevent me to boot from USB ? Is this the wanted behavior ? (something like defaulting to the rescue, I don't know why I can't boot actually ...)by ElectronikHeart - Rescue System
Yes I should have turned on netconsole before ... But that's not a problem, using a serial cable is simple enough ^^ The kirkwoods devices are not easy to break or to brick I should say. It's a shame that a lot of theses tutorials are not descriptive enough, and not linked together in a coherent way. And making it to the end without breaking anything is difficult. So I really did a mistake when I installed Rescue System V2 ? I thought it worked with arcNumber 3089 http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?4,3896 ( "with support for the new arcNumber (Dockstar & GoFlex Net)" ) When I tried to boot up with my USB Key the led (on the USB Stick) is blinking and the led from the Goflex is blinking orange a little after that. Then nothing ... Iby ElectronikHeart - Rescue System
