Yes, that sounds fine. In addition, I've just discovered a (rather dunderheaded) shortcoming (I failed to set CONFIG_64BIT_LBA) on my config for the EFI images - so I'm pulling/hiding them immediately. I'll re-link the previous "Newer U-Boot Images" - the ones that have been tested since February and show best function in your tests - later this afternoon. I'dby davygravy - uBoot

Thanks Jeff. You know, this makes me suspicious*** of the EFI partition setting. I enabled this to allow folks to use GPT/EFI partitions so that drives larger than 2TB could be handled transparently. It has apparently been in stable for about 4 years, but interestingly enough, there are very few users in mainline Kirkwood that have it enabled by default (IIRC, some of the Keymile boards use itby davygravy - uBoot
(assuming the swap partition is /dev/sda2) this should prolly be just a mkswap /dev/sda2 and you'd be good to go... just make sure you don't apply that command to any rootfs or data partition...by davygravy - uBoot
It sounds like kernel 3.5 will lean more heavily upon device tree support for Kirkwood. It looks like this is the status of things right now (6/2/2012) http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git;a=tree;f=arch/arm/boot/dts;hb=HEAD : with 2 DLink NAS boxes, the dreamplug, iconnect, and the ICY-BOX NAS 62x0 series ... -rw-r--r-- 1074 kirkwood-dns320.dts blob | history |by davygravy - Debian
Well, it shouldn't mount the swap, just activate it... but yes, it is failing to activate it, for sure. Did you use mkswap on that partition? What type (from fdisk -l /dev/sda ) is that partition?by davygravy - uBoot
@ Jeff & Kurlon: If you follow link 5 in my sig: Kirkwood Downloads > uboot > images-without-BulkUSBTimingPatch you should find images that you can try. Use w/ caution : I've tried the PogoPlug one & it works on all my USB drives as well as the previous one (based on straight 2011.12), except that it _doesn't_ work with my USB hub. But Kurlon, it really sounds likby davygravy - uBoot
Absolutely. I understand now. I'm going to need to check on something.... but... is it at least booting? If so, I think I have a special kernel roll that I made just after I got my GoFlexHome. I had hacked it to put on Debian, but then the same thing happened to me. The bad block problem effectively locked me out of changing my arcNumber, or turning on my netconsole. TBH, after actually sitting down to read/scan all 124 reports here http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,1915 it looks like this is a persistent, longstanding and widespread problem. Not enough to call the CDC but at least enough to warrant 5 pages of reports. Those two patches applied in 2011 may have helped some machines/devices with timing problems yet worsened it for others. I should diff (2011.12 vs 2010.08-or_whatever_you_used_Jeff) the include/usb* files. QuoteJeff ... but I do think it's a regression and I don't want any uBoot upgrades to break existing hardware configurations. Well, if it is a regression, then its a mainline regression, not a local-flavored one, as we haven't touched any usb-related code. BTW Jeff, in reading through someby davygravy - uBoot

@ both Jeff and Kurlon : when you say "hang", do you see any output whatsoever on netconsole? Is there no timeout message? @ Kurlon: Are there multiple USB ports on the Kensington? Hmmm... there is a thread here, I'm thinking that "vlad" (a really neat guy who writes excellent how-to's ; _not_ the infamous "Vlad the Impaler"!) wrote it up... It is clear that it doesn't like your USB on the Kensington. For myself, I can say that my usb hub here seems to work OK (usually) but there is something in the timings that sometimes causes a hickup. Is there anyway you can change the placemnt of the usb cords... ie. change the topology of the connections? Other ideas: introduce a wait/pause before starting USB...??? Well, I think your suspicion about the env could be right. (as I've run this U-Boot with various builds, distros and tarballs, I don't think the problem is w/ the U-Boot itself...) Two thoughts: My first guess would be to check the usb_rootfs_type value. What was it before the flash? How is it now defined? (perhaps restored to ext2 when putting in the new U-Boot ...) kk, thank you for the offer for the patch... actually, 30 minutes and some testing seems to have done it (just took the ALARM support patch and pulled out the two Pogo sections, added/modified two lines or so in each)... I now have a version 2.8.1 that extends arcNumber support for the Pogo_e02 and pogoplugv4 by their given arcNumbers... Yes, to me, it looks right. The only thing is that I'd do one more bit after flashing uboot, before rebooting... double check that your Netconsole settings are still in effect. (sometimes I do this by issuing printenv while in uboot and confirming that they are all still just like you want them to be, then saveenv. Hi pazos ... thank you for asking ... the first two answers are "because it works" and "because it works well", though it is clear that the LED will never function _perfectly_ (ie., getting it to turn green...) without the patches you made for proper LED support on the E02. Otherwise it works just fine. Honestly, if you have a truly "ready-to-go-and-well-tested"by davygravy - Rescue System
OK, finalized: L2Cache off during decompress so that default 3.2 kernels boot correctly, EFI partitions recognized for drives bigger than 2TB, SATA channel/recognition fix for GoFlex's and NSA320. The Pogoplug Pink/E02/V2 has a minor fix in it so that the arcNumber is properly passed (I'd borked something previously). http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1015928/Kirkwood/uboot/uboot.dockstar-Lby davygravy - uBoot

The command is either tftpload or tftpboot, I think. You know it works when you see the transfer complete. I use the GoFlex Net U-Boot on my GoFlex Home , and it works great. (these newer UBoots are the replacements for some older versions : it turned out that there was an unforeseen latent bug in the codebase for the old UBoots, which causes an undesired behavior w/ the newer kernels, henceby davygravy - uBoot
OK, no more features... I'm stopping with stuff here, removing (for the time) the USB/IP drivers and I'll try then to move it to the most recent buildroot toolchain. The new toolchain isn't really necessary, but it would make the patches more minimal and a tad cleaner.
