ive pushed my checkpoint to one side for a bit.... ill see if i can find a good price on a 3020 and feedback either wayby Gravelrash - Debian
If you are in the market for a cheap 4 core intel processor - with 2GB ram and an 8GB emmc card, capable of Gb networking, usb 3, usb 2, minipcie (wifi), sound and that runs at 5V with a 3amp draw - similar specs to the OrangePi. but however with no gpio pins... although you could use a usb daughterboard to provide this.... have a look at the Dell Wyse 3040 - just picked me a couple of for £by Gravelrash - Off-Topic
Thanks @Bodhi - you saved me many frustrated google-fu sessions there already - yes the wifi absolutely does work. :) i can ditch the adsl - i have no need for it - others may. If you find time to take on the challenge on the adsl front - let me know and i'll happily sacrifice a unit to the cause. .. :- toddles off to do silly things to wifi slots and M2 ssd'sby Gravelrash - Debian
Finally got my hands on another L-50 with wifi and adsl onboard.... ive upgraded the wifi to a dual band and the atheros drivers recognised it and it starts on boot - still got to work out how to have both radios working and showing... but thats for another time the focus of this post really is to highlight i have another one and will see if the kernel and associated drivers work well enouby Gravelrash - Debian
Thanks Bodhi - i thought that was the case :) I will stick to doing the "quick and easy" stuff as im only playing about for now, i dont see a need to go the whole hog and mod what is a working kernel and go through the debug scenario..... i will have some meraki kit coming my way shortly and mangling that will take up some of my time for sure!by Gravelrash - Debian
i have another L-50 with Wlan and ADSL being delivered... i also found an ssd in M2 form factor kicking around in my box of bits... ill feedback on how successful or not these are at being utilised... @Leggo... if you are in the UK, i can send you the basest of base model to play with if you cover the cost of postage... P.M. me if your interested Caio for nowby Gravelrash - Debian
Q - this might seem like an odd question.. What packages need to be removed from the tar file that you generate to strip it down to a minimal installation with just the "sane tools" installed?? Im quite interested in doing a minimalist version for my L-50 and want to see how low in disk space and memory usage i can go. Im pondering this so i can see what modules i can blacklist tby Gravelrash - Debian

at the risk of hijacking the thread - i personally would migrate away from pihole and move to a better solution - as shown below Adguardhome : a self contained binary for arm5 architecture is available if you dont want to do the compiling yourself or Blocky : this would need some tweaking to the code I appreciate that this doesnt contribute to the finding and reporting of optimisatioby Gravelrash - Debian
shame about the lack of support for mmc booting directly - i will try this over the weekend with a properly created SD card and feedback if we are fortunate in this respect.... elsewise i will fallback to booting off a usb stick and swop to the mmc to complete the boot.....bit of a fiddle and would be a tad of a nuisance to write up in the howto... but hey :)) when did things that are a nuisaby Gravelrash - Debian
Following a very good observation and question by Leggomyeggo, i am pleased to show that the SD card works and supports at the very least a 32GB uSD card. root@debian:/# dmesg | tail [ 37.384846] mv88e6085 f1072004.mdio-bus-mii:10: Link is Up - 1Gbps/Full - flow control off [ 37.475834] mv88e6085 f1072004.mdio-bus-mii:10: configuring for fixed/rgmii-id link mode [ 37.503879] DSA: trby Gravelrash - Debian
if anyone is wondering what i mean by the above where can i download the armeabi root filesystem - i see an armhf how do i parse bodhi kernel to it to get it to boot... been years since i played around doing stuff like this.. and im a sucker for something that is low power consumption, abandoned by the vendor and considered underpowered by todays standards. + i also like the challenge and tby Gravelrash - Off-Topic
Ive noticed snippets here and there on this site and the inter-tubes about using Alpine Linux with Mr_Bodhi kernel. . . Does anyone have a howto or a guide on how to do this? id be interested in tinkering around with it. i dont see an armeabi root file system advertised on the alpinelinux site.... or maybe its me being in-observant. I dont posess a pogoplug since moving a couple of years ago - however, i dont see a reason why it cant be enabled. you owuld need to find the file that hosts the httpd config and amend there then saveby Gravelrash - Off-Topic

just a heads up for people following along and enjoying the fun :) I have found that if you use an SSD to usb adaptor, it takes a while for the uboot to recognise it and sometimes doesnt. so dont be surprised as yet if you get this error/// @Bodhi - is there any way of slowing the boot down to give the system time to "recognise" and "prepare" itself - to accept the adby Gravelrash - Debian

another thing to feedback - im trying to get an L-50 with a wireless card in it... i dont see any reason why that couldnt be changed out for a mpie memory card or similar.. oh and i have got to get flash card adaptor and a pcmcia/express3? card to see if they do anything fun :)by Gravelrash - Debian

if your happy to "sign this off as working" I'll look to put together a HOWTO and post it - wherever you recomend as appropriate - then do some playing with it, see if i cant get it to shadow/duplicate ports, bond them etc and allow me to tcpdump traffic passing through the interfaces// i will also look into seeing if i can bond specific ttl devices to the usb interfaces to alloby Gravelrash - Debian
works a treat - boots Openwrt & Debian. kwboot was successful also i tested it with debian... havent tried with Openwrt. i see no reason why it wont boot openwrt - i will try tomorrow when i have more time. only thing of note was this that popped up to me in the boot sequence [ 0.257231][ T1] No ATAGs?
