cat /etc/initramfs-tools/modules cat /etc/network/interfaces ifconfig -a
ifdown eth0 ifup eth0Note that you might not have eth0 when you are running systemd. It is likely named something else.

System has not been booted with systemd as init system (PID 1). Can't operate. Failed to connect to bus
How are you making the swap file? Where, and what are your steps to do this?Quote
The message above starts after I create a swap file and reboot the machine. All this is done via ssh.

The tell is is if a binary foo exist on both folders as a real file (if the /usr merge is going on, /bin/foo should be a symlink).

On the older container /bin is NOT a symlink, and probably explains why the files appeared to double up.
Quote
Edit: But how? All I can think of are there's other symlinks under the conatiners /bin/ that may point to a larger number of files than are on the remote host, or it got into a loop when checking - it did take a very long time to count the files and I killed the count.

In any case, it's a mystery why doing the rsync and the deletion put systemd into a bad state.

What I'll do is make brand new containers rather than copy over the older ones.
