NSA325 with OpenWRT installed
September 28, 2023 04:02PM
Hello, thanks to this forum, I managed to recover my bricked NAS and successfully installed OpenWRT. However, I'm interested in having a more recent version of Debian. Could you guide me? Currently, the system boots with U-Boot directly from NAND and then starts OpenWRT.AND and then starts OpenWRT.

That has a section about how to dual boot OpenWrt and Debian.

Also see many other threads about dual booting Debian and Open Wrt in the Wiki Thread

Of course, if you don't want to keep OpenWrt at all, then see this (also in the Wiki thread)

Boot Kirkwood rootfs with stock u-boot

Basically treat OpenWrt u-boot like stock u-boot.

Ok, I did it. However, Debian only starts from the USB if I give the command; if I reboot, OpenWrt starts from NAND. How can I make Debian start directly from NAND without leaving the USB connected?

You need to save the envs so that it will automatically boot into Debian on USB rootfs. If you are not sure, post the serial console log here (from u-boot banner until the Debian login prompt). The log is important to see what commands you entered, and which u-boot version you are running.

Debian rootfs is on USB, that's your whole system, so it must be attached and booted to. Your OpenWrt system is on NAND flash.
