mtdparts=mtdparts=orion_nand:1M(u-boot),4M(uImage),32M(rootfs),-(data)The above is the default for the current u-boot.
root@sheevaplug:~# /usr/sbin/ubiformat /dev/mtd2 -s 512
ubiformat: mtd2 (nand), size 531628032 bytes (507.0 MiB), 4056 eraseblocks of 131072 bytes (128.0 KiB), min. I/O size 2048 bytes
This showed mtd2 is 507 MB. So mtds definition for this Debian system is not the same as what I've defined for this u-boot and the my released rootfs here (mtd2 is 32MB).
dmesg cat /proc/mtdand post the log here.

I built my own minimal Debian 12 rootfs using debootstrap and debuerreotype that uses only about half the MTD flash rootfs partition. Then I built my own version of bodhi's 6.10.11 Kirkwood kernel to add UBUFS support and to compress the kernel modules (cuts them down from ~90 MB to ~30 MB). With his kernel, there is no need for the initramfs to boot a UBIFS rootfs.
