You should recreate one Ext3 partition to make sure they are OK (to avoid future problems). Don't use swap partition. But your USB rootfs is working fine, you should back it up to a tarball first (see below) before doing anything.

You would backup the USB rootfs partition, and then restore it to the HDD partition. Make sure the HDD has only one Ext3 partition. Don't worry about swap. You can create a swap file later. When you do backup and restore rootfs, you must be root (sudo will not work). And you can do this on another Linux box.

With the HDD roots plugged in, remove the USB drive if it is attached.

Power up, interrupt serial console and execute these commands

setenv bootdev ide
setenv devices 'ide usb'
printenv
boot

And let it boot all the way in Debian, log in, and aslo SSH in to verify that it works.

While log in Debian, also execute these commands

cat /proc/mtd
fw_printenv

Please post the serial console log here.

You need to shutdown the Stora, bring the USB rootfs to another Linux box, mount the HDD, format the HDD with 1 Ext3 partition, and then backup the USB , and restore it to the HDD.

Yes I have backed up from usb rootfs on another linux computer, this copy is saved on this very computer linux where and created. Question: How do I move this copy of rootfs on another physical computer to the hard drive I have in Netgear Stora.? After the backup, I take the usb rootfs and turn on the Netgear Stora again and then try to transfer the rootfs files to the hard drive I have in the left compartment of the Netgear Stora. Previously, using cfdisk, created one boot partition on this hard drive and formatted it in ext3. Trying to copy files from running usb rootfs to hard drive. To do this, I must mount this hard drive to the mnt folder to enter/dev/sdb1 with the cd/dev/sdb1 command and that is where this command does not work. You must specify a path to the rootfs file. And I don 't know how in the terminal to determine this path. In the graphics file manager, it 's just part of the properties of this file and there you can see it and transfer it to the terminal command, and without the graphics file manager, I don 't know how to see the path to the rootfs file in the terminal. Please tell me how to do that? And then I 'll copy all the rootfs files to the hard drive. And then you 'll need to specify the boot from the hard drive and everything. So I understand. I usually don't help with these steps. They are something you can learn how to do easily. But here basically the steps.


- Take your USB rootfs to another Linux box. Log in as root. Assuming it is mounted at /media/sdb1.

cd /media/sdb1
time tar -cjf /my-rootfs.tar.bz2  . &

At this point, the tarball is created at the root of your Linux box.

Then you would copy the tarball to the root of you USB rootfs:

cp -a /my-rootfs.tar.bz2 /media/sdb1/
sync

And then umount the USB rootfs, bring it back to the Stora, and

- Log in as root. Format the Stora HDD with 1 Ext3 partition, and mount it. Assuming this HDD is mounted at /media/sda1 (please make sure that is the case, and adjust the following commands, you don't want to make a mistake here and wipe out the USB rootfs!)

cd /media/sda1
time tar -xjf  /my-rootfs.tar.bz2 &
sync

Now you have the exact copy of the USB rootfs on your HDD partition.

The HDD preparation might have been incorrect. Boot back to USB and redo the HDD rootfs.

With both USB and HDD are in the Stora. Power up, interrupt serial console and

setenv bootdev usb
setenv devices usb
boot

Let it boot all the way into Debian.

Log in with serial console and refornat the HDD, untar the rootfs taball to it again.

Don't reboot yet. I like to see everything so I double check.

Please post the entire log here.

2 things.

When you use the disk that is smaller than 2TB, you can use fdisk to wipe partition and create new one.

fdisk /dev/sda

And then create 1 partition inside fdisk.

The above is incorrect. The formatting is for the partition, sda is the entire disk.

So it is:
mkfs.ext3 -L rootfs /dev/sda1

And then mount the HDD partition and extract the rootfs tarball.

mkdir -p /mnt/sda1
mount -v -t ext3 /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1

cd /mnt/sda1
time tar -xjf /my-rootfs.tar.bz2 &
and when it was done,

sync

And shutdown, remove the USB drive, and then follow the same steps before to power up, set u-boot envs, and boot.

If you 'll let me have some questions I hope to get an answer to:
1) How do I update my system on Stora? How did you and I install via usb rootfs or is it possible over the Internet?
2) Does the system have a graphical interface enabled as in Netgear Stora via a browser? And if there is a way to enter there and how to use it (instruction)
3) How do I connect a second hard drive to increase storage capacity? Or for backup storage.
4) How do I organize DEBIAN Bodhi-based NAS storage on a home network with Internet access?

One question. Can I install a Linux 5.5.1 kernel Kirkwood-tld-1 if I have a 5.2.9 kernel now Kirkwood-tld-1 or do I need to install all your cores in order of release? And can I install older cores, such as 4.16.1 Kirkwood-tld-1 that the OMV-4 works with? Thanks.

Yes. There is no need to install older kernels in order. You can go from 5.5.1 to 5.2.9.

Yes. Most of the time it will work. But if the kernel is too old, then no.

If you want to install OMV4, it works with Debian stretch only currently. So you also need to downgrade to Debian stretch. And that's not recommended. Keep your current USB as is. You should use a new USB drive for the Debian stretch rootfs.

You can create a new rootfs on USB using Debian-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2 (use a new USB drive). Now you knew how to do it correctly, this is the easiest path. It will boot with no other change. After you got it booted, you can populate the HDD the same way. And this time you only need to reformat the HDD partition with mkfs.ext3 (no need to wipe out the partition with fdisk).

That is, as I understand I will have a second section created on the HDD with a kernel Debian-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2 in the end on one HDD there will be two systems: 1) Debian-5.2.9-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar. Bz2 2) Debian-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2 which can be operated alternately on either 1 or 2. Is that true or am I wrong? Or will 1 system work with boot with HDD and 2 system with boot with usb rootfs and on HDD will there be a partition for the second system?

No. It is best that you just have one system on the HDD partition. Reformat the current partition (earse it with mkfs.ext3), and extract Debian-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2 to that partition.
