Unfortunately, I think in the near future, I will have to declare this board is dead.

I don't see the bitly download count showing the interest in this board anymore.

probably gonna happen but I will keep mine going and it seems like there is really no need for updating too much more once it works as good as it can, I still like the fact I can run this thing 24/7 on minimal electricity and have it perform as well and quickly as it does. So as long as the board don't fry I will keep it alive. I have been working on a mail server but got sidetracked with other things so most my work has been on hold for that project. This board has been such a help saving my important documents and the capacity it allows for. So no funeral yet for me:)

Linux kernel 5.4.x is LTS (End-of-Support date is 2025). So any security patches will be in the stable tree.

That's I think will probably be my date too.

Even after that I will probably report if mine is still running at least, kinda want to see how long the microsd card can function with everyday use. It has already passed the point I expected to be replacing it! but if it does I will switch up to the sata ssd setup I have waiting on my testing unit. I haven't incurred any major problems requiring any patches for quite sometime which means even with the SID debian testing version it is stable. Not sure I will go passed the latest testing version on this board though as I don't want to push my luck, lol! Thanks for bring life to these boards because without your expertise and time it would have died a long time ago and sending out thanks to Schnee as well!

Just completed kernel update to Linux Kernel 5.4.210 Oxnas (OX820) Pogo V3
All is as expected. The Sandisk micro sd card is fully functioning however I did run into a self inflicted issue, see I have been rsyncing to the second drive in my configuration however at some point I added a folder of quite some size to use later to transfer to the other drives and well I forgot and pretty much overloaded the rsync drive which of course kept failing and after 2 hurricanes this year I have been so busy I had forgotten, suffice it to say I spent some time tracing back my issue and all is well again and the drive has now outlasted 5 hurricanes which is very impressive!!! Sometimes we need a bit of humor:)

Cool!

Don't know when the new LTS kernel 6.x will be released (probably January). I might go for broke and try that :) OXNAS is well maintained now in mainline.

Well doing my fall cleaning I decided to just go back to bullseye for now and let things on the debian testing work themselves out, had a few glitches that snowballed into a "I don't know why it did that" situation so I clean installed and have bullseye back up and running. I will post later on when I choose to go to the next level but for now with the holidays approaching my time is limited. as for the sd cards I ran a full badblocks test on both cards and have 0 badblock so its still ticking along better than expected! :)

Christmas is coming soon!

Season greeting is here :) I'm building 6.1.x kernel for this box. Make sure you check back and test it when I release for testing in a couple days (before the New Year). After that I'll be slowing down, getting busy with works.

OK. Close but no cigar :)

I took a close look at the mainline DTS, and realized that there are drivers that have not been ported to mainline kernel 6.x yet!

The kernel was built fine (I'd bet it will run fine too). But lacking drivers such as for USB, SATA, PCIe would make it too much works for me to actually try to port tthem.

I'm back with good news, over 5 years running and the duel sd card system is still running. I have mounted an ssh drive to the sata and ran it out externally to keep an rsync copy in case both of the sd cards were to fail. they are old and have had more cycles than I thought were possible with such small cards. I have not had time to go into the 6.x kernel myself, life seems to get in the way, lol. we will see if we can run these yet another year or so as is because if its not broken there is no need to fix it:) Cheers!

Well Happy New Year 2024! Yes the Duel sd cards are still operational and flawless. Cannot believe they are even running at this point, going to put them through their paces this month and add a 20tb drive to the system and clean out my 5tb drives, as with most systems I collected too much clutter files and the only way to clear them up at this point is to go bigger, lol. I could always do that on a pc but what fun would that be?:) I bet at this point very few are even running the pogoplug v3's but for those that do they are a fun little project and very useful in my setup at home.

I did accomplish installing an email server in Debian on an old pc that was collecting dust using Iredmail. If anyone is interested in that kind of project let me know and I will try to get back to you.

Many thanks again to bodhi for helping and guiding through the years on this!!

Echowarrior,

Cool! You must have been running an ideal setup for the SD cards. It seems between you and I, we have more than 15 years of flash-based drive rootfs longevity :)

Sure do, I keep it going just to see how long they last, I did find out that if you mount a 20tb full size HDD it will crash instantly, lol, think it runs too much voltage for the little plug. I plan to keep a pair of 5tb usb drives going on this one. and keep the other plugs as backups in case of complete death to the plug itself, not really much more I can do with it other than that. It still serves a purpose in my home system as backing up my whole network but it does have its limitations.lol Take care and will check in....
