Yeah, you're right. It jumps around and is far from perfect USB voltage. > DC jack input: 5.31V > USB output: 4.2-4.5V U-Boot (2017.07-tld-1) and NAND (OpenWrt 21.02.2) booted fine at the moment. But I'm willing to admit that I hadn't the courage to flash NAND with 5V. Did it with 12V ^^ But OPKG package installations seems to be okay with 5V without corrupting sby killerbees19 - Off-Topic

Just for the record, because I'm playing around with my old Dockstars at the moment: Yes, it's possible to power the Dockstar with 5V (via USB or even the 5.5×2.5mm jack!), but at this mode no USB (i.e. storage) devices are detected. EHCI timed out on TD - token=0x80008d80 USB device not accepting new address (error=2) It should be fine to boot from network or NAND thouby killerbees19 - Off-Topic
Hello, someone posted the trick, that it should be possible to power up the Seagate Dockstar via 5V USB instead of 12V. I couldn't find it again, but I knew it is somewhere on the www. So I gave it a try and connected the USB port on the side via A/A cable to a phone charger and USB power meter. Voilà, it works! I've tested it with the 2 ports on the back too, works. 0.3 - 0.5 amperby killerbees19 - Off-Topic

I think I've found the reason: The two "/usr/bin/mkimage" lines from the installer don't work at my Dockstar's. I don't know why, but the solution is really simple :-) mount proc /mnt/proc -t proc mount sysfs /mnt/sys -t sysfs chroot /mnt /usr/sbin/flash-kernel 2.6.32-5-kirkwood In my example the new Debian-System is mounted to /mnt. After that reboot yourby killerbees19 - Debian
I have the same problem and your solution doesn't work :-( Currently I've installed Lenny and upgraded it to Squeeze. I'll test it tomorrow again with another USB storage media. Regards, Christianby killerbees19 - Debian
Update: I've tested >10 USB-Sticks and USB-HDD's, some of them are working and booting, but only with Lenny. With Squeeze, the Kernel is loaded, but nothing happens... Regards, Christianby killerbees19 - Debian

Hi, I can't install Debian Squeeze with Jeff's Squeeze Installation Script. After some power-off tries, it boots, but I can't reach it. The LED shines green. Ping/SSH are down. I tried it three times, but nothing happens. The Lenny Installation Script works fine and after that I can upgrade it to Squeeze. Any ideas or suggestions? Regards, Christianby killerbees19 - Debian

UPDATE: Solved - http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,2198 :-) I can't execute the "fw_setenv arcNumber 2998" command. The program doesn't exist. I updated uBoot to the latest version and rebooted my device without USB Sticks/HDDs. Any ideas? I'm using the Dockstar with Debian Squeeze. Regards, Christianby killerbees19 - uBoot
