I didn't put a browser on because my purposes were strictly Arduino-related. I love that this works at all, though, and it's pretty snappy. Also, if you look at the resource monitor in the LXDE window at idle, it is doing next to nothing. As I said, the Arduino IDE (is it Java heavy, I think?) pushed this setup to the limit. Putty completely crashed it. I also found that on 4 dby monkmandolins - Debian
To install a GUI- First, follow the instructions for the updated U-Boot and Bodhi's most recent Debian Kernel. Then: apt-get install xorg lxde-core tightvncserver VNC SETUP tightvncserver :1 Follow the instructions to make a password, but say no to the "read only" question. tightvncserver -kill :1 Edit config file to start session with LXDE: nano ~/.vby monkmandolins - Debian
Hi everyone- I have gotten Arduino working on the Pogoplug V4 and Mobile with the newest kernel from Bodhi and the newest Uboot. There is a command line method for uploading a sketch to the Arduino board, and there is also the ability to use the Arduino IDE in a VNC GUI on the Pogoplug which, believe it or not, is not that slow ( on par with a raspberry pi). If anyone has any interest in howby monkmandolins - Debian
Well, FG, that was amazingly helpful and now I appear to be working. I will let it run for a few hours/days and let you know if it craps out again. I am grateful for your help. By establishing reliable wifi, as well as an LXDE desktop accessible by VNC, I am using this to talk to, and listen to, an Arduino. Thanks again for your kindness Peterby monkmandolins - Debian
I am 3 feet away. Like I said, the issue is software. So, how do I set up wpa_supplicant? Can you steer me toward a pogoplug-specific guide, or do I not need one that specific? Thanks!by monkmandolins - Debian

FG- This is really great of you, to help me. I am currently rebuilding the rootfs. I have found that this system is intolerant of changing methods mid-stream, and I just finished trying to configure wicd. Once I have it up and running, can you aim me toward a tutorial for wpa-supplicant that works on these devices? More to come. Thanks again for your help. Peterby monkmandolins - Debian
Thanks for the quick reply. What I have is a software issue. Can you tell me which Debian wifi setup you are using? Wpa-supp vs wicd vs network-manager, etc> Thanks!!by monkmandolins - Debian
Hi- I have successfully updated the U-boot per Bodhi's posts and booted the newest Debian Rootfs on my pogoplug mobile. I am trying to get wireless up and running with a usb wifi card (Edimax EW-7811 which is Realtek RTL8188CUS). This dongle works but I can't set up reliable wifi. It keeps dropping out on me. Most recently I have tried "wicd" but I have also been trying nby monkmandolins - Debian
Hi I got wireless working. The VAMP setup ended up being very choppy. I will stop pestering about this, but I am really just wondering if there is a reliable and problem-free way to get squeezelite working on the Pogoplug. When it plays (Arch) it works fantastic, but there have been enough issues that it required multiple reboots per day. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Peterby monkmandolins - uBoot
Thanks Bodhi! This worked immediately! The new login for VAMP 0.6, by the way, is user:root password:vamp Do you have any idea how to get wifi working on this? The device is recognized, and here is the output of iwconfig: # iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth1 no wireless extensions. wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:off/any Mode:Managed Access Poiby monkmandolins - uBoot
Hi Bodhi and Dale- I am trying to get VAMP working on my pogoplug V4. I started today with a working Debian, which I achieved by following Quis blog. I then updated U-Boot according to the 2014.07 U-Boot instructions (thanks Bodhi). I then updated the pre-made environment according section B of that tutorial. I then tried to cross reference that tutorial with this page to figure out how toby monkmandolins - uBoot
Thank you very much! I have put an extender cable on the wifi adapter and placed it next to a cold surface. I don't think the pogoplug was designed with very good heat management in mind, which is totally acceptable considering the price. Will report back with results. Thanks! @bodhi The folder /var/log contains the following items: apt dmesg dmesg.2.gz dpkg.log preload.log boot dmesg.0 dmesg.3.gz fsck wtmp alternatives.log btmp dmesg.1.gz dmesg.4.gz lastlog I'm sorry. I feel like I have failed you :( What else can I try? Thanks! Peterby monkmandolins - Debian
Hi I am running some lights in my house using a Pogoplug V4 running Debian connected to an arduino via the arduino-mk package. This has been very cool and handy so far, except after a few hours the Pogoplug drops the wireless signal and doesn't reconnect. I don't know how to begin fixing/troubleshooting this problem. Would you be willing to help? Let me know what commands oby monkmandolins - Debian
Hi Bodhi- I am on a Pogoplug V4, which has been successfully running Debian or Arch according to your and Quis previous instructions. I have attempted to make a new ROOTFS with the new kernel 3.17. I followed all of your instructions, but I am unable to get the SD card to boot the file system. I am getting both the green and the red LED lit up at the same time and hanging there. Hi Guys For posterity, I found my error in setting up the Pogoplug Mobile initially for Arch Linux. I was copying commands and totally missed this obvious layout error: #tar -xzvf ArchLinuxARM-kirkwood-latest.tar.gz#rm ArchLinuxARM-kirkwood-latest.tar.gz I neglected to separate the unpacking and the deletion of the compressed file. It should have read: #tar -xzvf ArchLinuxARM-kirkwood-by monkmandolins - uBoot

So, Arch didn't work but Debian did. Most crucial was the order of things- Boot the device without the USB, allow the connection via ETH, then insert USB with Debian, and bingo- I am able to SSH into Debian. Very happy and very grateful. However, I still need to get Arch onto an SD card and boot from it. I followed Qui's guide but I am stuck here: /tmp/fw_setenv bootcmdby monkmandolins - uBoot
You guys are too cool! Grayman- I did as you suggested and was able to make the Archlinux usb drive. I first powered up the plug without it, which registered the IP address on my home network. Then, I plugged in the USB drive. I can now access it via ssh, but as soon as I input the password it boots me out. peter@peter:~$ ssh root@192.168.0.19 root@192.168.0.19's password: Lastby monkmandolins - uBoot
I think I was able to make the USB drive per your instructions, but it didnt work. When I power up the device I get a steady flashing green light for a time, then red light, then nothing. Hi Bodhi Thanks so much for your reply. I ran into two problems with your suggestion. First, the wires ripped out the serial connections. Hi Guys I bought a brand new pogoplug mobile from ebay and attempted to turn it into a squeezeplug.
