sadly one if the wires lost its connection :( and i dont got my solder iron with me. gotta wait to finish my case mod until next weekend :( :( well my card is auto detected and i guess using automount with udev rules would work aswell.by Elfish - uBoot
yup i just tested a different card works just fine. it's a sandisk 16gb class card. i didn't hook up the sd detect line so far. will i expect any errors if i wont do so? here are some logs: Nov 29 21:43:25 dockstar user.warn kernel: [ 406.713848] mmc0: host does not support reading read-only switch. assuming write-enable. Nov 29 21:43:25 dockstar user.info kernel: [ 406.722216by Elfish - uBoot
the sd card was formated in ext2 in the first place. since i wanted to try it out if it even works i formated it in fat to do some tests in windows. i'd be glad to know your test results on a "blank" dockstar :pby Elfish - uBoot
i might have another card at home but i can't try it before the weekend :( the card works fine on my windows laptop. i already shortnend the wires :P didn't help aswell they're now single wires with a length of max 5cm those are the messages i get after inserting the sd card. Thanks for your LONG reply :). i installed a syslog daemon and got the following result: http://pastebin.com/PqyGhMZw doesnt seem to look that good. the cables are 20-30 cm long. and it's a ribbon cable... i guess that's why it's so shitty lol. i might shorten the cables and try again. i can't meassure the voltage atm. oh and i'm running debian squeezeby Elfish - uBoot
i'll try to edit the dockstar.h today and add the changes that are needed. i somehow got a problem with the sd card. after a while the card isnt detected anymore. before that i'm able to read and write to the sd card. after some time the system hangs if i try to do fdisk -l. it seems like it's looking for the mmc card but it isnt able to find it. any idea whats wrong with it? iby Elfish - uBoot
i just finished the hardware mod. i hooked up all the pins mindsmith provided by his pictures and after that i started my debian install from ubsstick. debian detect the card without any problems. so i dont think sd-card-detect pins needed. oh and all i need to add to dockstar.h is #define CONFIG_CMD_MMC right? to enable mmc support?by Elfish - uBoot
my sd card slot should arrive soon. any news yet? :oby Elfish - uBoot
if you install ntfs-3g. yes. but the speed will be pretty slow...by Elfish - Debian
how about you're trying to google first? basicly u just need to mount your hdd(s) to a spot and share them with samba.by Elfish - Debian
jeff is there any chance you could add sd-boot support to your uboot version? //edit fixed a typoby Elfish - uBoot
u could still attach a usb hub to that usb port... so it's not really that bad :Pby Elfish - Debian
i got it working now. the problem was: i got my laptop and the dockstar hooked up to a fonera router (running dd-wrt) which only has 1 lan port and 1 wan port. since i'm only using it as a wifi repeater i assigned the wan port as a lan port aswell through software. that limited my speed to like 1.7 mb/s. after adding a real switch to my network i get full 100mbit (since it's onby Elfish - Debian
i get transfer speeds of 1.5mb/s per through samba. i already tried the improvements mentioned in the thread. it didn't help :( i also mounted the hdd to a ram disk fstab: # ramdisk to mount stuff to tmpfs /mnt/ram1/ tmpfs defaults 0 0 if i can remember correctly i read about that issue in another forum where mounting the disk in a ramdisk helpedby Elfish - Debian
what's needed to install emdebian to an usb stick instead to nand? i like the idea of a very small system i guess it's optimized for read/write cycles aswell. speaking of read/write... does emdebian take care of /var etc?by Elfish - Debian
cool thanks it works now. couldn't i just use uuids in /etc/fstab instead of /dev/sda1by Elfish - uBoot
that's the log with both usb devices attached: http://pastebin.ca/1973191 it seems to find the correct usb device. maybe debian mixes up the usb devices and mounts the hdd as sda instead of sdbby Elfish - uBoot
i've setup a debian vm netstat is collecting data as i write. i just gotta find a way on how to transfer the logfile lolby Elfish - uBoot
thanks for your reply :). is there a way to add a "longer" wait time? it's quiet hard to get netconsole running since the dockstar is my only linux system :( i tried some netconsole windows servers but couldn't get it to work :( u dont happen to know a server for windoze systems?by Elfish - uBoot
yep. i gave up to move my debian install to my external usb hdd. i'd like to use it as a data grave for now..... i deleted all partitions on it and made one single ext3 partition i already updated uboot to the latest version supplied my jeff. so the partition detection should be fine. If the usb stick (contains debian) is plugged in AND my usb hdd, booting fails and i end up in jeff&by Elfish - uBoot
i just tried to move my debian install from a stick to a hdd. i formated the hdd the same way as my stick is. /dev/sda1 = root (formated in ext3 instead of ext2 now) /dev/sda2 = swap the sizes are different ofc. rsync worked fine. i tried to boot from it. but my dockstar boots automatically to jeff's rescuesystem. is there anyway to get my dockstar boot from my hdd :xby Elfish - Debian
Disk /dev/mtdblock0 doesn't contain a valid partition table thats the error i get O_o i tried to fsck my usb stick cuz i disconnected it from the power source without shutting it down :(. anyone knows how to fix that error. i also did that what's described here cuz debian did that: update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-5-kirkwood http://forum.doozan.com/by Elfish - Rescue System
yup i'd be interested in it aswell. do the buttons work?by Elfish - Debian
i think mediatomb can do that.by Elfish - Debian
i did apt-get install dialog to fix that error.by Elfish - Debian
i talk about the file system debian runs on. it's already mounted.by Elfish - Debian
would it be possible to take a backup/snapshot from a running system with dd to an external usb hdd? i'd like to backup my entire system usb stick monthly. Backupping should run automatically. would that be possible with dd?by Elfish - Debian
removing the sync option didn't help aswell same write/read speeds :(by Elfish - uBoot
i mounted it with atime i still got like 1 mb/s through samba those are my mount options: /dev/sdc1 on /media/share1 type fuseblk (rw,sync,noatime,user_id=0,group_id=0,default_permissions,allow_other,blksize=4096)by Elfish - uBoot
somehow i only get like 1 mb r/w :oby Elfish - uBoot
