Quotecan you believe it's already sold out?! Hell yeah! With the Mele only sold in China, and this with much better specs, a way better remote, and decent advertising, it should be extremely popular if they can get supply up before the hype wears out. I think this box would make a much better server replacement for the Kirkwoods than a Mele. It has lots of advantages: Dual-coreby gnexus - Allwinner A10
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Vizio-Co-Star-Teardown/10187/1 Vizio Costar has dual-core 1.2ghz processor, and a video coprocessor, more ram, hdmi in as well as out. It is close to the same price as a Mele, and it's sold in the US. Most importantly, it is zMarvell like the Dockstar. The kernel is already mainlined. The device needs hacking like the Dockstar. Nobody has done it yet!by gnexus - Allwinner A10
QuoteRegarding modules: If you say Ethernet you don't possibly mean "over USB", right? Ethernet is referring to the built-in wemac Ethernet adapter on the Mele devices. QuoteAnother question: Why do you include all the dev packages but recommend cross-compiling? Build-essential is included to encourage people to build, either natively or by cross-compiling, for the platform. Crby gnexus - Allwinner A10
QuoteYou probably know, but the URL is being redirected to where, unfortunately, Debian has no mention at all by now. Yeah, I know. I redirected it there! The sunxi site, however, unfortunately only has hardware info. Our site at http://a10linux.org should hopefully be back up within a few weeks, and I think people will like what they see! I am interested to know how other tablets work. Soby gnexus - Allwinner A10
QuoteThe address not works. It's redirect on http://linux-sunxi.org/Main_Page Yes. That is true. It is being temporarily redirected while the site is being revised. Please keep checking back there frequently. The new site is close to completion and will be up toward the end of the week. Sorry for any inconvenience in the interim. QuoteIs the built-in utility in the Android Settings? the Mele has a resolution settings page in Android settings. I don't remember seeing that on my tablet. That would not be practical for the tablet LCD. But most likely you could use the Mele Android app there to control the HDMI on a tablet. You might need to copy files from a Mele or recompile the tablet Android to get it to work. Thereby gnexus - Allwinner A10
QuoteI will attempt to build your kernel without cpufreq in the config It's not "my" kernel and I take no credit for it. The linux-allwinner kernel is a "leaked" kernel from allwinner android version which has been updated due to the work of mnemoc (amery) and many others. I made the current config for the a10linux stable kernel. That was done over the course of severalby gnexus - Allwinner A10
I finally got an SD card free so I could try to boot Jeff's rescue system. Sorry about the delay on that. But I do not currently have enough SD cards laying about. I can verify that Jeff's rescue system works very well as intended. You can use it to login to the system and check the disk, repair the system, and fix and create partitions. It is an excellent utility! I can also now verby gnexus - Allwinner A10
QuoteWould it be possible to build your kernel to without cpufreq support so that your images and kernels also work on the MK802? No. The kernel must have cpufreq support so it won't drain the battery too fast on tablets. Sorry about that. I want my kernels to work on all A10 platforms, but I can't sacrifice the most popular A10 platform just because the MK802 is crippled in some wayby gnexus - Allwinner A10

QuoteEither way, please try to be a little less hostile. I'm very sorry if it sounded it sounded discouraging or hostile to you. I certainly did not intend for it to be. If you are willing to try it, and know the possible consequences, I'm all for it and really hope you succeed. It will help us all to find the limits of these devices. That is why I started this thread. But I don'by gnexus - Allwinner A10
QuoteI'm pretty sure analog component out can't push 1080p Actually it can do that just fine. The only issue I have noticed is a bit of jitter in the display similar to an old CRT at a low refresh. But that may be an issue with my particular monitor. The monitor output settings have no issues. You can use 1920 x 1080 just fine with HDMI and VGA. We can't do 1080p video or gameby gnexus - Allwinner A10
QuoteOn mine at least, the MAC in the environment corresponds to eth0 as labeled on the rj45 connector inside the case. Yes. That does match on mine also. I was referring to the MAC that is currently shown on the Eth0 and wlan0 devices in Linux. So it seems that is a reliable way to get the MAC for Eth0. But what about wlan0? That one is more important for most people.by gnexus - Allwinner A10
QuoteNobody has managed to successfully overclock on a MK802 yet I really doubt that. . . It looks like they are doing it here, for example . . . that was just the first Google hit. But the MK802 has very poor cooling. Unless you remove the casing you may have a hard time overclocking it. There is a reason why most A10's are clocked at 1GHz. . . QuoteI'm not seeing the kpartx issue on my system, so I'm not in a position to test that. If you can get it working with sfdisk, I will be more than happy to accept patches. I figured it out. Your FAT partition is one block too big. For some reason writing the u-boot changes it slightly: /dev/sdb is your rescue disk sfdisk -d /dev/sdb > > a10_base-partitions.txt qemu-imgby gnexus - Allwinner A10
Quote# Create partition table and sysconfig partition cat <<EOF | fdisk /dev/sdb u n p 1 2048 63487 t b w EOF I'm fairly certain that is what's breaking kpartx. . . Can't you use sfdisk instead so kpartx is not broken when trying to mount the image with it? if [ $WIRED = 1 ]; then echo "Loading wired ethernet module" modprobe sun4i_wemac elsby gnexus - Allwinner A10
QuoteI also adjusted the apt configuration per gnexus' suggestion. This Debian thread has some good comments on --no-install-recommends: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=62393 --no-install-recommends can be extremely helpful on a non-gui system. In making the updated Ubuntu image I needed a way to closely duplicate the existing image. The new one is using armhf, but the old one was armel. So it was necessary to backup the ubuntu package selections and restore them into the new image. This is how it is done. You can use it to duplicate the installed packages from another machine. This way you can easily get your A10 device to have duplby gnexus - Allwinner A10
Thanks! The u-boot and kernels are going to be changing rapidly. Hopefully we can keep the bugs and typos to a minimum with user feedback such as yours. Fixed. I will u/l the updated version shortly and update the shasum on the link..by gnexus - Allwinner A10
APT::Install-Recommends 0; APT::Install-Suggests 0; Good for non-gui rootfs install. Very bad for a GUI install. I just spent two hours trying to fix LXDE on Wheezy where the above apt.conf screwed it all up almost to the point where a reformat was needed to fix it. I tried to put the above config in the Wheezy rootfs because the basic LXDE rootfs was too bloated with all the Gnome stufby gnexus - Allwinner A10
Quoteit is possible to get get both your screen and touch navigation on the tablet. I was wondering if you have a premade image that uses it? The images here will work with that. All the packages are there to do it and the LCD and touchscreen drivers are enabled in the kernel. But you MUST have the correct script.bin hardware initialization file for it to work. That was my understanding and why I currently have other priorities ;) There seem to be lots of people working on it. So I'm hopeful. It would be a fun project and challenge if/when I have enough time to actually work on it.. In the meantime there's always Android and 2160p or PPTV.by gnexus - Allwinner A10
Here is the X11 link at Rhombus. Is that where you started from? I've been planning to mess with the X drivers. But I've been so busy getting our kernel configured and getting the OS images updated I have not been able to get to it yet. I am a big MythTV fan. That is one reason I got the Mele. So anything that helps me along to getting playable 1080p on it is a good thing. So I appreby gnexus - Allwinner A10
