I would love to have something like this to control a light switch and even the brightness from my laptop but am leery of these type devices for most of the reasons stated here https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2016/03/the-absolute-horror-of-wifi-light-switches/ . Know of anything that is controllable via a linux cmdline and doesn't phone home to china or elsewhere?by feas - Off-Topic
Don't know how I missed this but will chalk it up to living outta my vehicle until today. https://www.deepdotweb.com/2017/05/21/intel-chips-from-last-7-years-can-be-hacked-remotely/ My head just exploded. Being turned off is not good enough! Will have to look into seeing if this is in other chip sets too but not enabled.by feas - Off-Topic

Been doing some reading on the dreamplug and keep running into dead links with plugcomputer.org but found it on the wayback machine. It does have some dead links still but here it is https://web.archive.org/web/20150322042153/http://www.plugcomputer.org/ You may know but you can travel thru time in it also by selecting different dates. FYI, all software references are quite dated but hoby feas - Debian

This isn't really a fix, the code could easily be modified to turn a service on at next boot, besides turning off a networking service preventing printing and or file sharing makes the network useless.by feas - Off-Topic
I find this amazing that all of these flaws exist. I truly believe it is all baked in just for those three letter agencies. I have not run a virus program for about 10 years now and have never had a problem along these lines. The only browser plug-ins I have are noscript and https everywhere. I would attribute my luck as it would seem to noscript which blocks everything from a website unlessby feas - Off-Topic
Not sure if this is what you are looking for. https://help.cloudtrax.com/hc/en-us/articles/202245580-Part-1-Network-Planning-Guide-Overview How big of an area are you talking about and distances to other houses? So went into the local Radio Shack that was closing and raided all the small electrical components that were left today. The regular retail price was $540 and got 204 items for $75. Sorting thru them now to see what I can make sets of to put in the kids arduino kits. Will post what I have after if anyone finds they have a need for something but you may want to have a look locally too.by feas - Off-Topic

Looks like Kim Jong-un struck. I was awoken at 3am this morning by police banging on my door. Apparently the building was on fire. Thanks, Was just looking to read the RC release notes. I follow a few items to try and learn more about the kernel. It was frustrating cause all the check if down sites I tried said it was up. Makes me wonder what the issue is being it has been down for a few days for me.by feas - Off-Topic
