Another option to the Ubuntu rootfs on this site is to use a Linaro Evaluation Build for your rootfs. Linaro builds probably have better performance than the standard Ubuntu. If you have tried a Linaro build please post comments on how it performs on the A10.by gnexus - Allwinner A10

QuoteWhat about publishing the image as a torrent at Linuxtracker? I would highly advise somebody to push the Unbuntu image out as a torrent. I doubt I am going to continue to maintain Unbuntu when the Debian image works better. It is also doubtful we will continue to host the Ubuntu image indefinitely when Debian works much better. So somebody please push it out as a torrent. Thanks!by gnexus - Allwinner A10
Don't be too concerned about /var/log. Currently not much, if any, helpful log info goes into /var/log. So even if it is blank I'm not sure if that would confirm the tablet is not booting. The way I was able to eventually log into my tablet was by constanly pinging it. Then I was able to SSH in. It was only later that I finally saw the HDMI screen. QuoteI think this will be because the current Linux images are configured for HDMI output, you will most likely need to modify the evb.bin file (found in the 16mb boot partition) and configure it to use the LCD display at its native resolution. Most people have not had much luck at getting the LCD's on the tablets to work with Linux. There is more to it than just the script.bin. You alsoby gnexus - Allwinner A10
I can't see why it would not boot from SD. Do you have the HDMI connected? You won't get any output from the tablet LCD no matter what you try. I can promise you that much. If you do not get a screen in HDMI then try putting an auto config in /etc/network/interfaces for your wlan device on the tablet. It must have the correct config with your wlan password. QuoteI even tried to upgrade it to Android 4.0 using an SD card made with Phoenix card in Windows. The upgrade image I downloaded directly from the Mele site link was corrupted. Note: The Linux SD images will not brick your A10 device. They can't be bricked. The Linux SD images also will not touch your Android on the flash. So don't worry about that. But Android is not as stable as Debian in any version. So far in Android my tablet has locked up twice, and the Mele has locked up twice. In all those instances they had to be reflashed. I got a parcel today from Tom Cubie! Edit: BTW Tom Cubie is hipboi. hipboi has done much to help us get GNU/Linux going on the A10 devices. He has helped a lot with kernel development. AllWinner A10-based devices use a configuration file in binary format to set up the SoC for different devices. This file, often referred to as script.bin, can also be named evb.bin (Mele Ax000) or sys_config.{product_name}.bin. The file is stored in the FAT partition with the kernel. I have not tried using it yet, but currently it is the only way to modify the u-boot environment on the A10 without a serial console or recompiling u-boot. But, unfortunately, using this tool, or a serial console, or even recompiling u-boot does not gain us much yet on the A10. The root device is compiled into the current kernel! Can you believe it? As part of my work on the A10 Debian image I needed a way to list all configured services. RedHat/Fedora has always had a way to do that with chkconfig --list (not that it works anymore with systemd). I'm now getting the 4GB Debian SD image finalized. All the above packages are working well, except as noted above. SUCCESS! I now have mythfrontend playing a recording from mythbackend on the same A10 host! Playback in a window is almost as smooth as using a backend from another host. First item to check: I accidentally left the following line in /etc/network/interfaces: iface wlan0 inet dhcp Remove that line and it should solve your problem.
