I'm back with good news, over 5 years running and the duel sd card system is still running. I have mounted an ssh drive to the sata and ran it out externally to keep an rsync copy in case both of the sd cards were to fail. they are old and have had more cycles than I thought were possible with such small cards. I have not had time to go into the 6.x kernel myself, life seems to get in the waby echowarrior108 - uBoot

Well doing my fall cleaning I decided to just go back to bullseye for now and let things on the debian testing work themselves out, had a few glitches that snowballed into a "I don't know why it did that" situation so I clean installed and have bullseye back up and running. I will post later on when I choose to go to the next level but for now with the holidays approaching my timeby echowarrior108 - uBoot
Well, when you got a good thing going you might as well try to go one step better:) Looking forward to trying it out when ready:)by echowarrior108 - uBoot
Just updated to the new Linux version, still going strong, many thanks to bodhi for keeping this alive and kicking! Here is link for anyone following this post. Linux Kernel 5.4.224 Oxnas (OX820) Pogo V3 package and Debian rootfsby echowarrior108 - uBoot
Hi Bodhi, got hit by both but no damage, prepared both times and doing good! Thanks for asking!! Echowarrior108by echowarrior108 - uBoot
Just completed kernel update to Linux Kernel 5.4.210 Oxnas (OX820) Pogo V3 All is as expected. The Sandisk micro sd card is fully functioning however I did run into a self inflicted issue, see I have been rsyncing to the second drive in my configuration however at some point I added a folder of quite some size to use later to transfer to the other drives and well I forgot and pretty much overloby echowarrior108 - uBoot
QuoteI see. Hard to part with something like that. I would keep it too. I have a box of floppy disks somewhere in the closet, in among them my first 8086 device driver I wrote:) perhaps it 's all bit-rotten by now. my bc88 w/monochrome finally hit the dump 3 years ago it simply gave up:) lolby echowarrior108 - Debian
QuoteThat equates to energy power hunger? For a mail server, it is overkill, AFAICT. Well, I do have other plans other than just a mail server if in fact I keep that one running all the time for better use of power and besides I live in Fl and have solar power hooked up to my networking so running 200w more power isn't an issue so far:) As far as the Dell KaseM300 goes I am looking into itby echowarrior108 - Debian
lots of hp for sure, problem is the motherboard had a faulty onboard video card which I disabled, it had a pair of sli graphics cards which went out from being old, I believe its on its last legs so it is basically worthless but I robbed a graphics card from another pc to bring it back to live, it used to be my main gamer but I built it in 2014 so it is pretty much obsolete and I figured since Iby echowarrior108 - Debian

Thanks for the suggestion however I had this pc just collecting dust and it deserves life again, lol, besides the wife said no more electronic devices are gonna be sitting around taking up space so buying another would not be an option:) I did get mail working on the desktop pc , it was a home built one and has more than enough capacity to run for many years and using it for my own personal emailby echowarrior108 - Debian
Kinda a final followup on this project, after installing iRedMail the server simply freezes, guess it is a processor issue and I feel at this point that running an email server from this box may very well be more than it can handle but it was fun trying! I did take an old pc and install debian on it and it will do the job so I went that route!:) cheers!by echowarrior108 - Debian

Not even sure when I installed it but it works on my unit. :~# uname -r 5.4.179-oxnas-tld-1 :~# cat /etc/debian_version bookworm/sid :~# python3 --version Python 3.9.10 (note: :~# python --version had no results for me) :~# apt install python3-pip Reading package lists... Even after that I will probably report if mine is still running at least, kinda want to see how long the microsd card can function with everyday use. It has already passed the point I expected to be replacing it! but if it does I will switch up to the sata ssd setup I have waiting on my testing unit. I haven't incurred any major problems requiring any patches for quite sometime which means eby echowarrior108 - uBoot
probably gonna happen but I will keep mine going and it seems like there is really no need for updating too much more once it works as good as it can, I still like the fact I can run this thing 24/7 on minimal electricity and have it perform as well and quickly as it does. So as long as the board don't fry I will keep it alive. I have been working on a mail server but got sidetracked with otby echowarrior108 - uBoot

Its nice when you work hard at something and it responds favorably!!! hope we have this same conversation in 2 years, really want to see how long this microsd lasts:)by echowarrior108 - uBoot
Just an update, still running strong on the mpcie card and rsync is definitely the better option for drive backups, I created an updating script which incorporates the rsync command in it. I am basically lazy but I like to control when I update or I would simply cron job the whole thing. I was glad originally that Bodhi introduced me to the Sandisk brand it has been flawless and time proven thusby echowarrior108 - uBoot
ran it for all this time, but yes major headache when it crashed. uggg... gonna take several days to restore the data to normal but its a good time to purge unwanted data:)by echowarrior108 - uBoot
Well after days of recovery and attempts my raid configuration failed me one too many times, it was showing a corrupted fs and sorry i did not copy all of the ways I tried to make it come back, fortunately I have really good recovery software and was able to save my data as raid wiped everything, I am now going to strictly run rsync weekly, as far as the duel card setup on here it is still runninby echowarrior108 - uBoot

Cool and many thanks!!!! Just set this up on my other plug and used a different server, one says its in las vegas and the other is in tampa fl lol... it bypasses my router vpn which is currently in NYC. so basically I can set all my home devices manually and always have my router showing as a default vpn location. I am glad I know where I am:)by echowarrior108 - uBoot
Yes very specific to the VPN provider. It was better written to what I would have done:) lolby echowarrior108 - uBoot

Below I copied the latest install for surfshark from their website this was not written by me but I did modify it for this forum, I copied it for those that don't feel comfortable accessing external links,I do not work for surfshark and I am a paid user of this product so be aware that if you use the product they will charge for service, I believe you can get a free version from some vpn proby echowarrior108 - uBoot
I can add that to my to do list, still working on a mail server as well, but things are busy here:) I am running surfsharkvpn on my router and I can try to put the settings into the plug as well. I will make a post when I get started and see how it goes!!!by echowarrior108 - uBoot
