root@debian:~/nwsp2/u-boot# kwboot -B 115200 /dev/ttyUSB0 -b u-boot.kwb -t
kwboot version 2023.01
Patching image boot signature to UART
Sending boot message. Please reboot the target.../

hangs on there. console is working (and not running atm)

the program does not hang because that last mark looks changes.

I2C: Could not initialize timer (err -11)

resetting ...

atleast its not totally dead. but maybe its desoldering time soon.

You should have flashed a known working u-boot first: the stock u-boot.

well, should be supported by u-boot mainline as it has own configurationfile i used.

There are at least 2 different versions of the Networkspace 2.
https://web.archive.org/web/20180720230834/http://lacie.nas-central.org/wiki/Category:Network_Space_2

I suppose that means that there should be 2 different u-boot's either.

Indeed.

But looks like this box is the Netspace V2 "classic" version (with 256MB).

U-Boot 1.1.4 (Jan 7 2013 - 21:15:04) Marvell version: 3.4.16 LaCie 1.3.9 256MB fvdw gpt usbboot vs80

U-Boot code: 00600000 -> 006701D0 BSS: -> 006BDAE0

Soc: 88F6281 A0 (DDR2)
CPU running @ 800Mhz L2 running @ 400Mhz
SysClock = 200Mhz , TClock = 166Mhz

DRAM CAS Latency = 3 tRP = 3 tRAS = 9 tRCD=3
DRAM CS[0] base 0x00000000 size 256MB
DRAM Total size 256MB 16bit width
[512kB@f8000000] Flash: 512 kB

So building with the default netspace_v2_defconfig is the correct version. But not the netspace_lite_v2_defconfig.

Also, keep in mind that due to the new architecture change in recent years, many mainline u-boot for old hardwares need to be regression tested. That did not happen for a few Kirkwood boxes (perhaps such as the Lacie NAS?), because there is no active maintainer. I'm actively maintaining the mainline u-boot for the Kirkwood boxes that I've been supported here.

Used the classic version. Not Lite-one. Ordered a clip for my programmer so maybe i can manage without soldering iron. atleast as an option.

Has anyone found, or finds information about that J2 header that has serial pins. there are 8 pins and there is 4 that i know of. (depends on the side you look 1 tx 2 rx 3 ? 4 ? 5? 6? 7 gnd and 8 vcc. wonder if rest is connected to that spi flash chip ? or possibility of that unpopulated header which is rumored to be jtag header. ?

Look for JTAG at J12.

Wonder if it is the standard ARM 20pin header.

http://dy.fi/1n

then there should be also possibility os SWD also. Could use plain arduino for that?

Most of Kirkwood boards use standard JTAG header.

Unbricking examples (in the Wiki thread).

Pogo E02:

Dockstar:
https://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,127079,127629#msg-127629

The above have the same SoC as this Netspace 2.

ahuovinen,

> though still wondering why kwboot wont work and
> why supported mainline u-boot dont...

It could be that thix box has an old BootROM version (1.1x). If it does, kwboot won't work. At u-boot prompt,
md ff00003c
If the output of the first word looks like this, then it has newer BootROM (version 1.2.1):
ff00003c: 00000121 e3a00000 e59f222c e5921000 !.......,"......
Otherwise, it might be 00000111 and the version is 1.1.1.
