Bodhi, do you have a list of setenvs? I intend to set this up as a multi-usb cloud for home use and be able to access remotely. I'm running it through a Linksys wrt32x router so speed is no issue and I do have communication ( the router sees it), however I cannot access it from the browser yet, I know there has to be an easy fix but as usual I am still learning, I hope all this helps the next guy:)

I checked out nextcloud, it seems ok but I have a bunch of windows based pc's that are not yet compatible, gonna keep searching until I find a good NAS program and software. I may need a bit of help installing but thanks to you and the others here I am getting the hang of it:)

Bodhi, definitely not using nextcloud, I can't even begin to figure out where things went wrong but here is a log of what is going on:
( all scenarios are logging in sudo su, viewing with terminal on Ubuntu 17.10, starting with #picocom -b 115200 /dev/ttyUSB0 )
If i try boot with pogoplug i get:
It then hangs and repeats.....
next I try with USB inserted:
so same thing then with SATA, no usb:
I had to interrupt to stop each of those.
at this point I did the printenv;
also when it starts looping it shows up on my router but i cannot access it via ssh.
I am assuming I have screwed up NAND as I made a duplicate usb with same results.
How do i fix it?

The booting above has some setup problem so you could not see the reason. The reason was most likely the default envs image was not flashed, or the envs were not adjusted correctly after the default envs images was flashed.
Note that the netconsole has started, so output stopped going out to serial console.

Mount this USB rootfs on your other Linux box and look at that file. Retrace your steps (should keep the log of what you did), to see why that file was touched and in what way!
Assuming your USB drive is mounted as /media/sdb1 on the Linux box.

hey Bodhi, not this is weird, I unplugged and rebooted this plug the same way since last night, I tried it agian and the results are below
so I am back in and just gonna leave it on my terminal as I have to run out for a while.
I am wondering if I have too many files in boot if its getting confused...

Bodhi, I think this may be why, dpkg to install the new kernel, I am gonna keep working on it but if you know an easy fix I would really appreciate it:)

You are trying installing kernel offline on your Ubuntu while the USB is mounted on it (you can not do that). Note: you could do that with chroot, but it is more advance subject, don't try that yet.
Boot into to the Pogo, and then run dpkg at the Linux shell terminal to install new kernel.

Bodhi, I have not been able to get to root@debian:~# to do this however I found that my sandisk drive has been malfunctioning, it actually quit working so that may be part of the problem, I created a new usb drive in my other Sandisk drive and have ran into a new issue:
so I am getting closer to a fix but not quite there yet, have you ran across this before?

Your envs are messed up. The DTB was not loaded. If you study the boot log you had before with a successful run, and compare with this one. You will see that loading was missing.
Power up, interrupt serial console and list the envs:
Please post it here if you can't see which env was in error.

Bodhi, sorry about wait, still fixing things after Hurricane Irma:) I went ahead and created the new boot usb , I was able to log back into debian:
this is where I am so far:) had an issue with Ubuntu locking my username and password out so I had to re-install that as well, glad I posted most of the logs down as I was able to track down enough to re-install:)
now I should be able to install the new kernel:) I will keep you posted.

this is where I am so far:) had an issue with Ubuntu locking my username and password out so I had to re-install that as well, glad I posted most of the logs down as I was able to track down enough to re-install:)

here is one question why does this hang for a long time before uncompressing linux, like below, is that normal?

Hi Bodhi, Well so far I have loaded Samba and it works quite well on my network, I can see the drives after a lot of setup however when I have to reboot it seems the only way to boot is to first unplug the other usb ports and disconnect the ethernet , and wait until it fully loads then plug them and an mount them all manually again, kinda a pain so my question is how do I set up to reboot without all the drama? :)
I did attach ethernet in progress because it hangs unless I plug it in, I have not at this point plugged in usb devices, now I will attach each device starting with USB 500tb drive (sdb) and it just hangs where it stops:
Also a note, I bored a hole in the back of the unit case to accommodate the sata and serial cables so I don't have to rip it open and leave a mess all over my desk, lol:)

I did attach ethernet in progress because it hangs unless I plug it in, I have not at this point plugged in usb devices, now I will attach each device starting with USB 500tb drive (sdb) and it just hangs where it stops:

You have serial console so don't need netconsole, and that has slowed down the boot and difficult to troubleshoot. So at Debian shell, remove it.
And then make sure ethernet and all disks are plugged in as they should. Reboot, interrupt serial console at count down and
and go ahead and boot

Yes, reboot with ethernet, but without those extra USB drives. And after booted into Debian, plug them in.
And then look at the drive and partition.
You might want to reformat them in Linux, especiialy the FreeAgentDesktop. If NTFS is needed, ntfs-3g should allow the disk to be plugged in and accessed in Windows. If NTFS is not needed, then use EXT4, and export it as Samba share.

the free agent i can format but will do it on ubuntu as it hangs everytime I plug it in, the other is a seagate 5tb drive its much newer and I cannot format it as I have no drive big enough to store that much data at this time. That probably explained the error! This looks like a hybrid GBT/MBR paritition structure is used currently.
With the new u-boot, this 5TB can be formatted a whole single GPT partition, and then it should work in all OS.

I have way too much on this to break it up into other drives, I see the trouble as well, it has a small partition that is for seagate tools and my pogoplug wants to read it but can't so it kinda just hangs on reboot.
This also explains why my WRT32x router which has usb ports cannot read it. Thanks for helping me track down this ghost in the machine!!! Echowarrior108

Hi, bodhi, I received my new usb 5tb drive today, I am going to format it on the pogoplug then copy the other 5tb drive, then when done format the old one to the pogoplug , ntfs seems to work ok with my setup so i will proceed with those drives in that manner.
also my new question,its about the pcie , I am never going to use the wifi card , so I came up with a crazy idea and hope I can make it work, I found a pcie card with 2 micro usb ports , my plan it so install it and put in 2 16 gb sandisk cards and use one as rootfs and the other as linux swap, do you think that this is doable?
I will of course keep my working usb rootfs handy:)

Yes, it would work if the USB interface is 2.0.
USB 3.0 is not working in the mPCIe slot, yet (lack of driver for this box).

Yes, it would work if the USB interface is 2.0.
