Pogoplug V4 no longer boots
December 28, 2019 09:01AM
Hi there, first time poster on this forum.

I can no longer boot my pogoplug V4 (pink logo) to Debian after an unsuccessful upgrade to kernel 5.4.2.
Probably took the wrong turn somewhere in Step 4 (4b I guess).

I attempted the kwboot, but still can't boot to Debian (I have a backup copy made prior to this attempt). Nor can I access the ext3-formatted USB stick with a copy of mtd0 partition.
Also, the envs are identical (kwboot and now-messed up uboot) if it matters.

What is the best way to recover from this mess?

The long term goal is to have the pogoplug serve as asterisk server and a light duty NAS if booting issue can be fixed.

Thanks in advance.
O.

Olek,

When you said "unsuccessful upgrade to 5.4.2", I am sure your rootfs is messed up. Especially the /boot directory.

Mount the SD card on another Linux system, and assuming it was mounted at /media/sdb1,

cd /media/sdb1/boot
ls -lart

And post the output here.

Hold on,

Your envs actually are messed up badly.

Bodhi,

Managed to boot the system with pristine Debian (5.2.9) per this post, thank you very much:
https://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,28772,29034#msg-29034

Sadly, the 5.4.2 installation no longer exist - I wiped it out.
Now I need to figure out how to clean up the envs.

Thanks!
O.

Olek,

I am in transit (on travel). Will check back to give you a hand.

Basically, your current envs are wrong since it can only boot USB rootfs.

Once you restore the envs to the default state. It can boot any type of drives.

Bodhi,

A quick heads-up before you spend any more time on this - I went ahead and restored uboot's 's envs from the default ones per instructions in the Uboot section and voila, the system booted up.

The working envs:
