Interesting - the only other time I came across the need to do a split disk setup that was on the Cubieboard 2 and the Raspi Would i need to make any mods to the following and if so what do you recommend /etc/fstab machid = i notice one isnt set anywhere, im guessing that the sheevaplug setup we are "borrowing" will need it? Tried the other suggested options. to gain console access, gut feeling is that the "com port" is faulty Trying the above and issuing the fw_printenv commands worked (after i added the missing ') the disk was inserted and boot attempted. Im guessing it hung somewhere as after a few minutes there still wasn't anything showing on the network GOOD NEWS IS that the systemby Gravelrash - Debian
@bodhi.... here we go.... if it borks it borks.... no loss no foul :) if it works it works - then YIPPEE count me in for a "uboot mashing" to a decent one. Time to "live dangerously" - wasnt able to solder in the appropriate cable to get a uart boot. or for that matter attempt a kwboot. but for anyone thats interested - the pinout on the uart port is the same as the Pogoplug - seems to be a standard across the marvel kirkwood range Looking from the front of the board / device the pins are as follows Left ------------------------by Gravelrash - Debian

You definitely have interest here! as the old adage goes for every one person who asks there are 10 more who are interested. So by that analogy there are at least 20 people interested and you also have the interest of the guys who made the product so on that score alone its DEFINITELY worth a write up. @bodhi 1 & 2 I will attempt the UART boot after solder this weekend - if it doesn't pan out that i can get serial console access in any sensible way. I cant comment directly on the brand you are showing, as i only use Sandisk uSD cards with adaptors on my plugs I have used uSD cards in uSD to USB adaptors (if that helps you) and to date have not had any issues. I have had a look as to whats involved in adding SATA to this unit, and i dont think i will be attempting it. I REALLY dont like soldering SMD's . So if anyone is interested, here is a link on how to do it. https://spritesmods.com/?art=t5325_satapex&page=2by Gravelrash - Off-Topic
@Joey - you mean something like this...... http://s732.photobucket.com/user/mr_battery/media/1_Adapter/3_18.jpg.html , just do a search for "female" usb to RJ45 and you would be amazed what turns up. @hahibe - Thankyou.by Gravelrash - Off-Topic
@bodhi I will create the new thread for this discussion when the box arrives, i agree with you that this is good for many uses other than NAS due to the network bottleneck. I don't envisage adding SATA to this particular one, I will look into whats necessary to add sata and see how i go. @Joey - Yes it will need more than one interface and a usb-to-ethernet adaptor will be perfectly aby Gravelrash - Off-Topic

I'm finding it harder to get low cost plug devices, and given the availability of the below devices on the bay-of-e am considering purchasing a couple as they are Marvel Kirkwood based devices. if it is possible to include this device, what do you require from me (when I actually go ahead and purchase it based on the feedback here) I intended to do this last year.
