I installed vncserver according to petergunn's instructions. It works fine locally (the viewer and Dockstar are on the same home network). However, when I try to connect from outside use ssh (putty) tunnel, it says connected and then disconnected. The same setup works fine for other computers on the home network run Windows/VNC. Thanks for your explanation. I think I understand now. The conclusion, don't mess up uboot :-).by twinclouds - uBoot
Thanks. Let me state my question a little differently: Hypothetically, if I erased mtd0, will Dockstar still be able to communicate with PuTTY through the CA-42 serial cable?by twinclouds - uBoot
I don't know if anybody is still interested but I just successfully flashed original firmware after reinstalled original uboot (with prompt of ce>> rather than Marvell>>). The flash procedure described in http://plugapps.com/index.php5?title=Hardware:_Seagate_DockStar_Reflashing works perfectly. On the other hand, I tried and failed a few time before when using Jeff's uboby twinclouds - uBoot

O.K. I solve the problem and would like to share the findings. I restored original uboot from USB debian Linux to mtd0. Then I was able to reflash the pogoplug firmware. Then I reinstalled Jeff's mtd0 uboot. It is like new now. Two things worth mentioning: 1. Restore uboot can be done from USB debian linux as long as the necessary software are installed. 2. It was confirmed that the rby twinclouds - uBoot
O.K. My situation is as follows: I installed Jeff's uboot for boot Debian in USB. It works fine. Then I tried to installed Openwrt without Serial cable and failed. In the process I damaged the original Pogolinux firmware, even though Jeff's uboot still works and I can boot into USB Debian. I bought a CA-42 cable and connected to the serial port, Openwrt installed successfully. Hby twinclouds - uBoot

Interesting. Can you posted it so others can try? If the code is not too long, you can simply insert it in line and formatted it as "formatted code". Or you can attach the file but I have never use this feature before.by twinclouds - Debian
wombat: I tried a few times and all failed. If I copied the lines, it always said it got "Attempt to write non page aligned data" error when writing the kernel. Somebody said you need the original uboot but not Jeff's. I increase the write length to along page boundary but always hang at the booting linux. Which uboot you are using? Do you have the same error? Fortunately, Iby twinclouds - Debian
I tried but not successful. The uboot can still boot into USB so there's no loss. I can install Openwrt and boot fine but not the pogolinux. One interesting observations is that the back up of mtd's are all from zero. Does that means the mtd2 also contains mtd0? Has anyone succeeded to restore mtd backups? If anyone did, I would like to know the procedures (using the serial cable)by twinclouds - Debian
I had the same problem but for different causes. Anyhow I found my environment parameters were corrupted. One key parameter, if you use Jeff's uBoot, is bootcmd. It should be: "bootcmd=usb start; run force_rescue_bootcmd; run ubifs_bootcmd; run usb_bootcmd; usb stop; run rescue_bootcmd; run pogo_bootcmd; reset". If not you need to reset it to this value using" bootcmd &qby twinclouds - uBoot
I corrupted the original firmware of one of my Dockstars. Fortunately, Jeff's uboot still works and I can still boot into USB Debian. Now I got a CA-42 cable and tested it working. I will try to follow http://plugapps.com/index.php5?title=Hardware:_Seagate_DockStar_Reflashing for reflashing original firmware. However, I have a question about one of the steps. For restoring the ram disk,by twinclouds - Debian
Looks like others don't like to use a Windows machine but I have been using Acronis True Image back up software for back up USB drives and transfer to another drive with great success. You can either move up or down in size, either way. Convenient and reliable.by twinclouds - Debian
If you already have the latest mtd0 uboot, Jeff's script will detect and not touch it as I remember.by twinclouds - uBoot
One way I know should work is to use a serial cable. So the backup is at least useful. To do restore without serial cable is much nicer. However, it will not be useful if you will need to have Pogoplug linux working. Because if one messed up the MTD's, the Pogoplug Linux will not work. This is probably the reason why you will need to restore in the first place. One useful case is Pugopby twinclouds - Debian

O.K. Now I have the netconsole working. I would like to know what I can do with it. Can I use it to back up the stock firmware? Suppose I had flashed the Dockstar with custom firmware, can I restore the original firmware or flash an updated version using netconsole? I am sure there are references to my questions so please forgive my ignorance. I would appreciate if someone can let me knowby twinclouds - uBoot
Hi, restamp: I followed your procedure and it works indeed very reliably. I then put it in a executable file and it also works. Thanks so much.by twinclouds - uBoot
restamp: Thanks for your reply. That must be my misunderstanding. What confuse me is that in Jeff's posting (first post of this thread), he never mention if one need to use or how to use netconsole. Can I simply follow Jeff's instruction as in the first posting with out use this netconsole? Or if I need to use, where should I execute this script? In Pogoplug linux? Thanks in advaby twinclouds - uBoot
If nc works on my linux, do I still need to install netconsole?by twinclouds - uBoot
You can set up samba or other file servers. This is a good reference to start with: http://www.rudiswiki.de/wiki/DockStarAutoMountSamba. I am not particular like the auto mount usb part, though, because I would like to have more control.by twinclouds - Debian

Yes. I meant the original posting. It works for Lenny perfectly without any change or additional scripts. It didn't work well for Squeeze at first. Then, once I used Jeff's latest script: "http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/dockstar.debian-squeeze.sh" and the latest Kernel package by Rudolf, It just worked, no additional scripts/programs needed.by twinclouds - Debian

I installed Asterisk 1.8 without problem. However, my soft phone/APA adapter cannot register. It says wrong password but there's nothing wrong about it. I used exactly the same sip.conf setting on a-1.6 and 1.4 without problem. Please let me know your experience once you installed it correctly.
