That's why I have 2 GB swap file on mine ;) Quotein my personal preference, I'd trade whatever minor performance degradation, if any, for the substantial convenience of the swapfile Just like I'd trade the convenience of having a partition layout that is the same on every machine ;by gnexus - uBoot
Looks like an Exynos 5 dual core board is also coming soon with SATA 3.0 and USB 3.0 for $135: http://www.cnx-software.com/2012/12/16/135-armbrix-exynos-5-dual-cortex-a15-development-board/ So many choices. . .by gnexus - Allwinner A10
IMX.6 quad has both Gigabit Ethernet and SATA, but I have yet to see a low-cost device with the ports attached. Only thing so far is the tablets and HDMI sticks which of course have neither. Still hoping to something like a IMX6 Mele-type TV box soon, however. In the meantime Boundary Devices has a development board for $199 if you are willing to pay that much. I'm commenting here to your thread because Linaro states that they have added GPT support to uboot. See the "GRUB on U-Boot" thread on that. A couple of other comments: Somewhere in the thread the use of ext3 was mentioned. Don't use that! Use ext4. Ext3 is deprecated and should only be used on new builds if you need compatibility with something like ext2ifs for Windowsby gnexus - uBoot
Seems Linaro has been busy! They have implemented "GRUB on U-Boot" support: https://wiki.linaro.org/LEG/Engineering/Kernel/GRUB This could be very handy for embedded devices, and could help to eliminate the work involved in creating fancy boot scripts like Jeff made for Kirkwood and I made for the A10. Look forward to seeing posts on how well it works. . .by gnexus - uBoot
Quotehyena the one to beat so far agreed! But an HDMI stick is vastly more portable, and if we can get the imx6 graphics properly sorted for std. Linux this device, or similar, might turn out to be a nice choice. Please let us know how the Odroid works out for you. THX.by gnexus - Allwinner A10

More i.MX6 quad-core devices! This one is a HDMI stick like MK802. But looks way better! http://liliputing.com/2012/12/zealz-gk802-tv-stick-packs-quad-core-freescale-cpu-onto-a-99-pc-on-a-stick.html Edit: Updated price and specs to reflect what is listed on Alibaba.by gnexus - Allwinner A10
@ hyena Please post commentary on it once it arrives. I'm still waiting to get imx6 device, but plan to do so soon, and will post commentary on it once it arrives. In the meantime I got a new $199 (actually it was £199 over here) Acer C7 Intel i3 Chromebook. Very nice! It is now running Fedora 17 like my other Intel systems. Highly recommended!by gnexus - Allwinner A10
Finally, after waiting half a year, there is more news on this at linux-sunxi. . . Seems the quad-core is now called A31, and there is also a dual-core called the A20. The quad core is four Cortex-A7 (the lower powered version of the A15) ARM cores. It uses PowerVR graphics which basically means no Linux support :( The A20 is two Cortex-A7 with dual Mali 400, which basically means it isby gnexus - Allwinner A10
Good news! More quad-core alternatives to the A10, with better docs and Linux support, are on their way! The ODROID has two versions - 1.4Ghz 1GB at $ 69, and 1.7Ghz 2GB at $89. Both come with Exynos SoC like in Galaxy S3. They are bare boards with big aluminum heat sink as the case. Good price!by gnexus - Allwinner A10
Hi guys, Just got back from LinuxCon in Barcelona. Not really any interest there in the A10. Can't stay long here at home. Been called away for some field work until Xmas. Unfortunately that means no time to post the old A10 images. I have to leave again soon. I can't access my laptop when I'm gone. I take my co. laptop on the road. QuoteIs there a way to install Debian on Mele's NAND using the whole 4GB space Use sunxi-tools. There is a tool called nand-part that partitions the nand. The nanda partition is not writable, and thus not shown. It will not be affected. The kernel and uboot are stored in the "linux" directory in that partition. You must keep the "env" partition to store the uboot enviroby gnexus - Allwinner A10
QuoteI think the problem could be the kernel 3.0.42. When I tried the 3.0.42, posted here by me, last night on a tablet I noticed that video output was not working. There are some changes in 3.0.42 framebuffer configs compared to the earlier versions. I have them configured as modules to better cooperate with Mali support. But it appears they do not load in time to work correctly. The LCD, HDMIby gnexus - Allwinner A10
ian, I don't know your definition of stable. But the nand multi-uboot posted here works more consistently for me than does using mmc to boot. It is also a bit easier and safer to install than the mmc version (no dd commands are needed). The install instructions are in the readme. It defaults to booting the existing Android. You can change that in uboot.conf and boot from any of the suppoby gnexus - Allwinner A10

ft5x_ts module must have multitouch disabled to work with the existing xorg evdev driver. That is not in the std. kernel images. You must edit the driver config in the kernel source and then recompile the kernel to get it to work. It would be a good contribution if somebody did this, using the existing kernel, config, and toolchain, and then posted the module. Then people that want the moduleby gnexus - Allwinner A10
QuoteHenrikSame applies on images written to nand, the bootloader (boot0 & boot1) need to be prepared for the board. Thus, by booting from NAND using the existing boot0 & boot already supplied with the device, we automatically overcome all the SPL issues. By simply avoiding booting using uboot installed to MMC only one NAND uboot version needs to be used. It is simply not practical fby gnexus - Allwinner A10
Excellent! Looks like we finally got somebody else to contribute ;) Now I can relax and hopefully catch some sun in Barcelona this weekend instead of building A10 images. . . Even better is that it is a nand install! Did you hopefully include the multi-boot so that people can alternately boot from SATA or USB?by gnexus - Allwinner A10
@guillaume Not sure if I understand about the patch. The patch is for the kernel driver, or xorg userspace? If it is for the kernel and helps a lot then I will try to update it. If it is for xorg userspace then can't the pkg itself get built? The only work on the SD images I'm doing is to update the existing ones. For Ubuntu that is 12.04 LTS. In email discussions with the hosting provider for a10linux.org they have informed me that they do indeed have automated backups available of the VPS. It was tested and works well on Mele A2000 v1.3. I'm going to try to get it tested on an A10 tablet today. If you post bug reports you must provide more information: Which Mele version? Well, unfortunately, it seems I actually spoke a bit too soon about the SD images. I should have though about the information from Henrik a bit more before posting this thread. According to Henrik Nordström (hno), the maintainer of the linux-sunxi uboot, we can't expect to boot reliably using an MMC SPL unless there is a specific MMC uboot for every different device!
