by this I mean if it shuts down, the first time it wont boot from usb, pulling the plug and it then boots fine from usbstick (it warm reboots fine every time) I remember this used to be an issue on the dockstar, and I wonder without going through the agro of trying to get a "fixed" uboot if there is a simple solution to getting it to cold boot every time from the (ONLY)usb stick inby hyena - Debian
sorted out the flashing LED's on traffic ... just need to make sure you have the LED's and netfilter's LED module compiled in to the kernel (which fortunately I selected in one of my many iterations to get a working VPN kernel) then for example to flash on SSH traffic iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 22 -j LED --led-trigger-id ssh --led-delay 1000 echo netfilter-ssh > /sby hyena - Debian
shv, hi .. thx for this I kind of found this out the hard way when the message reappeared so I uninstalled it "by chance" .. works perfectly now .. thx a lot for you helpby hyena - Debian
Hi, I have set up a little LT2P/IPSEC VPN server on a little Kirkwood device (wheezy/linux3.5) I want to use it to securely use public wifi with my ipad .. so traffic goes from the ipad through the wifi hotspot to my wifi cable router to my wifi interface (wlan0) of the Kirkwood and does the iptables/VPN server stuff out to the net back in to the VPN server and back to the ipad via my cableby hyena - Debian
shv, hi,many thx for this just installed the tools first ... apt-get install u-boot-tools uboot-mkimage then ... tried your commands .. first command worked fine, second didn't .. figured second should be something like this (which seemed to work) mkimage -A arm -O linux -T ramdisk -C gzip -a 0x00000000 -e 0x00000000 -n initramfs -d initrd.img-3.5.0-hyena-iconnect /boot/uInitrdby hyena - Debian
Shv, thanks for this .. had a try and generated the .deb and installed but still the same error message ... on apt-get ------------------------------- Setting up linux-image-3.5.0-hyena-iconnect (1.0) ... Hmm. There is a symbolic link /lib/modules/3.5.0-hyena-iconnect/build However, I can not read it: No such file or directory Therefore, I am deleting /lib/modules/3.5.0-hyena-iconby hyena - Debian
Got rid of the apt-get error by "dumb ignorant brutality" - deleted /var/lib/intramfs-tools/3.2.0.4-kirkwood and ran apt-get update/apt-get upgrade and error message gone .. not very satisfactory as I'm sure the boot process is still falling over but falling over to boot eventually the new kernelby hyena - Debian
Bodhi, hi, I'm struggling to find the files .. heres what i did to compile the kernel : download source and patch it for iconnect /usr/src/linux-3.5 make ARCH=arm menuconfig <<i then configure kernel and save>> make -j4 ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=../arm-2010q1/bin/arm-none-eabi-uImage make -j4 ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=../arm-2010q1/bin/arm-none-eabi-modules makeby hyena - Debian
Bodhi, hi thx for this, my /boot on the iconnect flash drive consists of : config-3.2.0-4-kirkwood System.map-3.2.0-4-kirkwood initrd.img uImage initrd.img-3.2.0-4-kirkwood vmlinuz initrd.img-3.2.0-4-kirkwood.dpkg-bak vmlinuz-3.2.0-4-kirkwood the uimage being the new kernel (3.5.0-iconnect) i dont have a .deb file,by hyena - Debian
Hi, just cross compiled a new kernel (for my kirkwood based iconnect) ... and have the uimage and modules and copied them across to the existing wkg (old kernel - 3.2.0-4) boot usb flash drive ... it all boots up fine and in to the new kernel .. but i get an error on apt-get when it tries 2 update using initramfs-tools the old kernel version of the files (3.2.0-4) rather than the new versionby hyena - Debian
Guillaume, hi try a Hardkernel Odroid .. they have a nice dual A15 in test at the mmt (hopefully with USB3/SATA) and their current Odroid A9 quadcore are v.g quality and start at $65 (exlc pp) .. no SATA though I.R.O the pi .. its what it is cheap and cheerfull designed to teach kids hardware and sware.. great support, community and lots and lots of projects and startups (like adafruit)by hyena - Allwinner A10
not worth the waste of time of dealing with he agro/attitudes there .. i'll stick with what i have which works o.k.by hyena - Allwinner A10
Hi, whats the latest stable GIT kernel branch for the mele (taking the sata clock fix in to account) that i can use to compile a kernel .. there are so many branches now i havnt a clue which to use to compile a new stable kernel (time for an update so see if things have improved any in the last few months) ... rootfs is gonna be armhf wheezy & SATA needs to work thx ianby hyena - Allwinner A10
perhaps this may give u what u want ... added benefit of usb3 and GPIO pins as well sadly it looks like yet another ARM board "not got a pot to p*ss in" vapourware "outfit" looking to herd preorders to finance an intial board run ... perhaps we have to wait for decent "outfit" with a track record like hard kernel to get something like this board out properly !by hyena - Allwinner A10
the one to beat so far has to be the odroid u2 samsung quadcore and its clever heatsink/case .. amazing quality/performance for the priceby hyena - Allwinner A10
Maybe the guys @ Olimex could help u ? they went throught he same process and they have opensourced all their designs and docs I believeby hyena - Allwinner A10
and decent linux support .. looks quality made as well :-) .. got one on order ..by hyena - Allwinner A10
the sammy quad core herd kernel devices (ODROID U) sammy quadcore are the current "dogs b*llocks" of devices US$ for $70+shipping you get a sammy quadcore A9 spiffy hsf/case .. http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G135341359084 http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G135341370451 bye bye A10/A13 ....by hyena - Allwinner A10
have u seen Guillaumes little program on his website that suggests it might boot from nand ... i havnt tried it yet but i assume it takes a working sd card distro and sets up nand boot from it ..by hyena - Allwinner A10
doesnt the A13 have a cut down memory architecture as well ?by hyena - Allwinner A10
guys , hi, once theres a final working stable nand uboot - is it possible to post an "idiots" guide (for ppl like me) to moving from stable (headless) sd card based linux to nand based ... it would be interesting i guess as well to have the option of backing up the nand partition periodically to a blank sd card (kind of like a recovery) .. not sure if jeffs recovery coversby hyena - Allwinner A10
n.b. if you are a windows guy (like me) theres a great really simple tool to backup and restore sd card (and usb stick) images - i use this a lot to back up and restore various armhf builds (i use my mele 24/7 now as a squeezebox/minidlna headless server but still play with it by swapping sd cards) - you just have to remember to right click (run as admin) when you start it - as sd cards osby hyena - Allwinner A10
Hi, For not really linux tech savvy ppl like me i wondered if it might be an idea for an "IDIOTS" guide to moving from a working/stable SD card based mele to nand ... for me now i will never use android on the mele again and its a shame to waste the nand (i wonder how much faster running from namnd than sd will be ?) (in an ideal world having some kind of easy backup/restore routiby hyena - Allwinner A10
Gnexus, for the imX6 .. you might find some useful docs in the links/posts in the powerdevelopers forum http://www.powerdeveloper.org/ This is from a little ARM/linux US outfit called Genesi who were really well in front of the pi with a lovely little sub $50 imx5 board .. but turned chicken in releasing it and then turned alternating shades of red and green when the pi started sellingby hyena - Allwinner A10
if u can wait for a couple of months as (a) the prices of new platforms made in china always drop like a stone after a month or so (b) the imx6 platform doesnt formally come on stream for a couple of weeks also the samsung quad core SOC is rumoured to be making a push in to cheap chinese manufacturers as well .. Samsung like Freescale has a decent reputation of linux support Iby hyena - Allwinner A10
I think Gnexus is talking fundamentally about people wanting to make a quick buck selling products that use other peoples work BUT will not recipricate by releasing their portions of the work for other people to benefit from .... If you step back throught the "A10 story" it goes Pi came out and created a new market TCubie and his UK pirate party associate jumped on the backby hyena - Allwinner A10
Bodhi, APAD quad core imx6 stick : SoC – Freescale i.MX6Q Quad Core Cortex A9 Processor with Vivante GC2000 GPU System Memory – 1GB RAM Storage – 16GB NAND Flash Memory + microSD card slot Video Output – HDMI Connectivity – Built-in Wifi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth USB – USB Host + USB OTG hi heres a link to a video of one of them .. about $90 plus shippingby hyena - Allwinner A10
hi, gnexus, you're absolutely right that the chinese SOC makers have zero interest in mimicking the strategy of the likes of samsung or freescale, their objective quite understandably is to knock up a dirt cheap SOC based on older (cheaper) ARM licences .. knock out an android reference board and source and thats it .. pump it out to chinese manufacturers as cheap as possible in as vast aby hyena - Allwinner A10
hey i got the 1000 it was $20 cheaper and basically the same plus the free caddy ;-) the mele (now its sata is working) has already replaced my little old hacked plug iconnect that has been for the 2 yrs or so 24/7 running squeezebox server/minidlna iplayer TV downloader and an on demand python in build simple webserver (so i can upload pdf's/pics etc to my ipad 3 without the horrific ituby hyena - Allwinner A10
