Bodhi: The USB always booted fine. However, I cannot make the SD card work. I tried to use serial console to see what's things going on, then I found that at some stage of booting, the output become random characters. It then stoped somewhere and hit return didn't do anything. I tried the good booting USB, the results were the same (random ouput) even though it still worked. I triby twinclouds - Debian

Bodhi: Good suggestions. Thanks. I have USBs that can boot into Dockstar. Will that work? Edit: Yes, it does. I plugged in a Dockstar USB and it booted fine. Thank you and others for your patiant guidance. The LED doesn't light. Any information on the LED setting?by twinclouds - Debian

Bodhi: Everything seems installed without error. A couple more questions: (1) If I want still boot the default pogo linux or Arch Linux, do I need to set "# fw_setenv arcNumber 3960 # fw_setenv machid F78" as you said in previous post? (2) Which script should I use to install Debian on USB drive or SD/MMC card? Thanks.by twinclouds - Debian

Bodhi, Chessplayer: I have hooked up the serial port and fixed the problem. I then tried chessplayer's suggestion of add the dropbear line. It also works. Thank you both for comments and suggestions. I don't do much much experience of flashing uBoot. If I flash the uBoot as Bodhi outlined, but made a mistake and cannot boot into linux anymore, can I still access it from the serialby twinclouds - Debian

Hi, Budhi: I received this Pogoplug mobile today. I registered on line and enabled ssh. Then I have a couple of issues. Nothing is serious but I would appreciate if you can shed some lights for me. First, it appears the wireless link is not enabled. What should I do to enable it? Secondly, since I have not intention to install Arch linux to it, I disabled the online update after I establisby twinclouds - Debian

Bodhi: While I am still waiting for device to arrive, I read yours and others' posts a little more. UART booting is pretty interesting, I will certainly try that out. As for flashing uBoot using the Pogo Native OS, can you tell me a little more detail about how to install to install fw_env tools and NAND tools? Thanks in advance, as always.by twinclouds - Debian

Hi, Budhi, Thank you for reply my post and for putting this guidance together. As I said, I haven't touch this type of devices for some time, I have a few questions. Debian/uBoot installation for pogoplug mobile? - 12 years ago
My Dockstars have been working great for a long time as web and Asterisk servers. As a result, I haven't touch it for a long time. Recently, I noticed the pogoplug mobile wireless is on sale for about $15. Thought it might be good for applications need build-in wify. Is there any good and verified description of how to change the uboot and install debian on such a device? Sorry for my iby twinclouds - Debian

I tried using asterisk 1.8.3 for incoming call (fax). It appear works fine. Is the reliability still an issue for incoming call nowadays?by twinclouds - Debian

I don't use it for calling in so I don't know if it works for 1.8.13.0 or not. For 1.8.13.0, you don't need to do the PROC setting any more. You can check if gtalk is loaded or not by doing "module show" in the CLI prompt.by twinclouds - Debian

It is well known that gtalk incoming call is not very reliable for Asterisk. People suggest to use FreeSwitch but I never try it. I use gtalk for out calling anyway. I installed Asterisk 13.0 recently and everything works fine. Have you installed libiksemel-dev and included chan_gtalk in the modules.conf?by twinclouds - Debian

I have modified the original post to reflect the changes in asterisk 1.8. I compiled 1.8.9.2 without patchs. The only change still needed is PROC=arm. I compiled it successfully with no problem at all.by twinclouds - Debian

@lewy1, funtoy1001: I haven't tried it for a long time so I even didn't know there's no need to modify utils.c anymore. Thanks for pointing out. Many of the packages in the dependency may not be needed. Besides apache, there're probably more. I just put a sufficient set, not necessary set. If you can put of a minumal necesary set. Most likely, you only need to get a serial link. It is much easier and cheaper (<5 USD) than J-TAG.by twinclouds - Debian

Back it up and restore it onto a larger USB stick. I do that all the time. You can use tar in linux. For windows, I use Acronis True Image 2010. Actually, this is what I mainly use. As a by product, you will have a backup copy and will be useful just in case.by twinclouds - Debian
