I think you can let it spin down and even tried once. You can fine information from this board or on the web in general. I don't remember how reliable it is when I did this. However, the power saving by spin down is minimal for 2.5' or 1.8' drives. It will probably have negative rather than positive impact to the drive life span. I no longer use it any more.by twinclouds - Debian
I am using one 1.8" HDD. No problem at all.by twinclouds - Debian
Yes. I didn't and don't have any issues at all.by twinclouds - Debian
Why do you need to back up the swap partition? My favorite is still the Acronis true image (on PC). It will resize to a larger or small USB drive with no problem, when restore.by twinclouds - Debian
I have installed tightvnc or Dockstar and have been using it for some time. Never have ssh login problems.by twinclouds - Debian
I installed usbip dockstar with openwrt. The results are the same: 2.0 give me error right away and 1.0 works for a while while the windows 7 command window hung there, but then disconnected. I might need to try another printer (non-multi-fucntion) to see if it works better. One question I have is what supposed to be the windows behavior. After I do usbip -a ... command, should it return toby twinclouds - Debian
I tried 0.1.0.0. The command screen first showed "new usb device attached to usbvbus port 1" and hung there. At that time, I can connect to the MFP with both scan and print functions. Then, three usbip error lines: "usbip error: usbip_vbus_vi.c 390 (write_to_device) last error:87 usbip error: usbip_vbus_vi.c 391 (write_to_device) out: 0 ret:0 len:64 usbip error: usbip_vbus_by twinclouds - Debian

I am not sure if there's anything against using a usb drive. As davidnewton said, attach a USB to the router and install on it is really very simple. If you don't have enough port, it is always easy to use a usb hub.by twinclouds - Debian

It worked but no longer working. Always give the warning :"W: Cannot check Release signature; keyring file not available /usr/share/keyrings/debian-archive-keyring.gpg" and then quit. The only one seems still working is this script: http://dev.shyd.de/dockstar/dockstar.debian-squeeze.sh discussed here: http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,4244,4587#msg-4587.by twinclouds - Debian
It used to work for me but now I have the same error on Keyring file. Jeff's latest script had the same error. Seems the only reliable (though slow) way is install Lenny then upgrade to Squeeze. It appears that this one (http://dev.shyd.de/dockstar/dockstar.debian-squeeze.sh) still works.by twinclouds - Debian
Hi, deskjockey: Actually, I am not using Openwrt any more. (I used it when I don't have any other choice.) Now I use Asterisk on Dockstar with Debian. It didn't work at that time. For ASUS routers, I only using Tomato and Optware. (Thanks to DavidNewt for bringing my attention to this configuration.) The latter one is really very straightforward. I just reinstalled it a coupleby twinclouds - Debian

Jeff's script is supposed to be run on the Dockstar's stock Linux. I am not sure if it will work if you have openwrt installed instead. It is always possible to revert to stock from Openwrt but then you need to restore the stock uboot first. That is why I prefer to install Openwrt in USB rather than in internal flash.by twinclouds - Debian
It worked for me also. Maybe Jeff can upgrade the script?by twinclouds - Debian
Bill Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I used the script for lenny and it worked. If your uboot is the latest one already, the script will not update it anyway.by twinclouds - Debian
I don't see why not although I haven't tried for anything larger than 20 GB (1.8" HD). You can simply try to find out.by twinclouds - Debian
You don't need to do anything. It will automatically resize.by twinclouds - Debian
Based on the results from googling, I verified that adding the following statement works: #su - root -c "/usr/bin/vncserver :1 &" & or #su - root -c "/usr/bin/vncserver :1 > /tmp/vncserver.log 2>&1 &" &by twinclouds - Debian
I use two ways backing up my USB drives. One is use the tar utility on Unix. It has been discussed elsewhere on this board. It is very flexible and powerful but you need to have Linux. The other way is using Acronis True Image on Windows machines. It is also reliable but sometimes picky about the drive you are using. I use the latter most of the time With Acronis, you can restore the imageby twinclouds - Debian
I installed TightVNC on Debian/Dockstar. It works fine. However, I cannot make it auto start when Dockstar turns on. Put "vncserver :1" in rc.local and rcS does not work. However, when type on the same command on SSH command line, it works fine. I cannot find a solution from Googling. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.by twinclouds - Debian
I installed Samba on Dockstar and connected to my home network. It is also used as a CUPS print server. When I installed it a few months ago, I found that I cannot see the samba shares as well as the directories on MSSII (Maxtor Shared Storage II) from my W7 machine. The problem disappeared later. However, it come back again. If I start Dockstar with Samba enabled, I cannot see either Sambaby twinclouds - Debian
