I'm glad we are meeting at Jeff's PLACE and figuring out audio and monitor stuff in rooms like this. I would like a guide on getting mplayer working on dockstar with some type of access from web-browser to control it, like I can with squeezeboxserver. Sounds like Peter is going in this direction. I'll give him a couple of days to figure it out so he can help some of us thaby rgtaa - Debian
Peter I was able to to get it work. I used this to do it. And I used your config file, that worked great. Is there a way to control the Mplayer from another PC like IP dockstar :9000 or something like that? apt-get install alsa-oss madplay mplayerby rgtaa - Debian
Peter root@debian:/# alsamixer cannot open mixer: No such file or directoryby rgtaa - Debian
Peter is the what I get from your commands: root@debian:~# aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: default , device 0: USB Audio Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 root@debian:~# for x in /proc/asound/{version,cards,devices,timers,pcm}; do echo $x:; cat $x; done /proc/asound/version: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23. /proc/asoundby rgtaa - Debian
Peter I can't seem to get it to work. I am able to use sound for my squeezeboxserver and slave. I installed those packages above and this is what I get. root@debian:/# mplayer -ao alsa -msgcolor -cache 64 http://ww w.tv-radio.com/station/fip_mp3/fip_mp3-128k.m3u MPlayer 1.0rc3-4.4.4 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team mplayer: cby rgtaa - Debian
Peter Good to see you are working now with audio tongle. I was wondering if you can do a guide for mplayer and client and also use the 5 dollar lcd with the 3 buttons on it to change channels and stuff. That would be very cool. It would be mini internet radio thingie. :) I will do the "copy and paste" and report back. Thanks for making my dockstar a cool gidget. You rock!by rgtaa - Debian
Jeff Could you make a nandrestore file , so we can reverse the process? You made a nanddump file. wget http://plugapps.com/os/pogoplug/uboot/nanddump Not sure how to restore the nand I saved back onto the tonidoplug and dockstar.by rgtaa - Debian
Peter That did it. Thanks (not on topic -- Peter I have a thread on restoring save nanddump back onto Nand , do you know how to do that, you seem so knowledgeable about linux stuff, if you have some type of answer, you can answer in that thread, and if you don't know about that stuff, no problem). Peter I just tried 08. I can't get the curser to blink I added a line in rc.local -- blink \ that looked like the other lines. I tried -- blink=yes \ no luck Also you might want to fix this line towards top of guide cd st2205tool && make && make install Shouldn't it be 2 lines because the other install stuff has cd directory ... but that instaby rgtaa - Displays
No , I'm still not able to start from Nand. I have 2 tonidoplugs, and I was able to do a Nanddump of the good one and it has 4 mtd sections when I do the nanddump from usb boot debian , but only 2 sections if I log in from NAND, so I'm hoping I can restore it to non working one , but there is no program that I can find that can do that. It is strange we are told to make nand backuby rgtaa - Debian
Jeff I was wondering if maybe you can add options for both tonidoplug and sheevaplug onto your LIST of devices that your wonderful bootloader would work for. I made the mistake of thinking, tonidoplug and pogoplug v1 would be the same, since they "look" the same, but I just went to site that compares them, and the pogoplug v1 has 250 megs nand and the tonidoplug and sheevaplug hasby rgtaa - Debian
What will that mean, exactly? Would it mean that if it sees the dockstar ID, it will only install the correct version for that dockstar of stuff? Sounds good, whatever it means. :)by rgtaa - uBoot
YES We are in same position. We both can boot into usb debian from stick, but I can't do anything with NAND. I have the cable, but I figured we shouldn't need it to do this process. If we can backup the NAND to usb stick, we should be able to reverse it, why is nothing on the web about this. We don't need cat 42 to do this, since we both can boot into stick. Gee , this is what I typed in from debian stick. root@debian:~# mtdparts=orion_nand:1M(u-boot),4M(uImage),-(rootfs) -bash: syntax error near unexpected token `(' then I typed in this: root@debian:~# "mtdparts=orion_nand:1M(u-boot),4M(uImage),-(rootfs)" -bash: mtdparts=orion_nand:1M(u-boot),4M(uImage),-(rootfs): command not found then I typed in this: root@debiaby rgtaa - Debian
Thanks for the tips. I did look at jeff's script and it has a ton of stuff on it , far to many pages of commands for what I'm looking to do. I'm thinking there should be a guide to do it. We are asked to make backup of NAND, which I did, and was given clear cut method to do it, see my first post, ... so of course , there has to be a RESTORE method , for taking that backupby rgtaa - Debian
So is there a program to take the nanddump and load it back unto NAND? (restore nand program) I saved my Nand using these commands : cd /tmp mkdir usb mount /dev/sda1 /tmp/usb wget http://plugapps.com/os/pogoplug/uboot/nanddump chmod +x nanddump ./nanddump -nf usb/mtd0 /dev/mtd0 ./nanddump -nf usb/mtd1 /dev/mtd1 ./nanddump -nf usb/mtd2 /dev/mtd2 umount /dev/sda1 Is there a way to nby rgtaa - Debian

Thanks restamp for helping me with this. 1) how would I ping it? Is that serial cable stuff, I haven't done anything with serial cable yet, although I did buy the ca 42 cable. 2) os is ubuntu 9.4 that comes with the tonidoplug (sheevaplug) and I put Jeff's bootloader on it. That was probably wrong to do, since I was able to boot into usb stick before I did jeff's bootloadby rgtaa - Debian
The tonidoplug would be same as sheevaplug, same chipset. I did the # mount /dev/mtdblock2 /mnt -t jffs2 ## presuming the file system is on mtdblock2 command and it came back that it can do superblocks or something like that. What would be the command for gaining NAND access for the dockstar, because maybe it's the same.by rgtaa - Debian
I have a tonidoplug that I just installed Jeff's installer to and I used option 3 , which is pogoplug v1, sheevaplug. But I can't ssh into NAND but I can boot into usb stick. How do I edit some of the files on NAND so I can start up ssh again from NAND. What are the commands from usb stick that will show the files on NAND. I can see the difference in font sizes between large and giant on the 5 dollar screen, but I don't see any difference on the monitor, it could be there but it's hard to see it. Peter My dockstars have pogoplug services on NAND but I was wondering if there is a way to put this keyboard and lcd programs on NAND so we could have ROOT access from NAND. This would be very handy and we could do Jeff's install right from dockstar without SSH. How big are these programs that it would have to install, I'm not thinking it takes much memory, you would know more thenby rgtaa - Displays

Peter! Perfect! I can see both monitors at same time and it hotplugs. You are the Man! :) Not sure if there is a HUGH font for the monitor , but I can see everything. Great work. With this achievement we don't need to do ssh anymore. :) I wonder if you could make an auto install script, once you get the finishing touches on it that would install it the same for everybody. oh Gee, I'm still confused, say I would only plug in either the 5 dollar lcd , take it off, and put on the displaylink one, I would need 2 different lines in rc.local? I don't mine doing 2 installs , I'm just confused how to do it. I also understand people that just want the 5 dollar lcd method, so they would get the commands for that. So that was why I was thinking, maybby rgtaa - Displays
