had some old android phone and tablets. still working well. it would be a big waste if throwing out. Found below article, convert them to pagers, put one android into every room. working perfect!, but you should have a raspberry pi 3/4 and install freepbx on it first Reference: https://www.cosfone.com/a-free-intercom-paging-system-with-raspberry-pi-and-old-android-phones/by asterix - Off-Topic

not worth if considering limited hardware and time on configure/debug, perhaps $9.99 orange pi lite is better even need extra money on sd card and power supply, but you can do more. https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Orange-Pi-One-ubuntu-linux-and-android-mini-PC-Beyond-and-Compatible-with-Raspberry-Pi-2/1553371_32603308880.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148356.3.6bcd7c1eucYrtx I had a gofleby asterix - Off-Topic
seems very powerful on hardwares, the price: $39.90 not bad, just a little higher than raspberry pi 3B. this SBC with 4 USB3.0 ports could be as an economic NAS, but complains still focus on overheating( if running as desktop, should be OK as server) and official image/support also awful. The good news is that armbian will support orange pi 3 soon. https://www.aliexpress.com/store/produby asterix - Off-Topic

Just saw this video, which compared some SBC, the rock64 and udoo with gigabit network and usb3.0 much faster, but udoo too expensive, so rock64 could perform better and also cheaper than raspberry pi 3b+ https://youtu.be/jsCgXQjaviM A seller on ebay offers : $25 including 16gb sd card and power supply, plus $6 for shipping, total $31 is very good price, but this seller has less than 20by asterix - Off-Topic
raspberry pi 3B+ has upgraded to gigabit network ( actually less than 300mpbs) , faster cpu, much better as mini NAS. Chose openmediavault as OS , which was developed from Armbian image, but still has some bugs on raspbeery pi 3B+ comparing to the performance on raspberry pi 3B. The web-gui of openmediavault looks good, you could add plugins ( smb, dlna, utorrent, openvpn.......docker) froby asterix - Off-Topic
