I got VMware the other day and am surprised to learn you can make a VM (Virtual Machine) out of OS/hardware combinations by IP'ing into them using the included VMware vCenter Converter. Additionally you can make VMs out of a system ghost that's been made with Acronis TrueImage, Symantec and other stuff. One attempt into doing my Debian PogoPro and got the error Failed to connect toby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Thanks! I see i have a deficit where the drivers meet the metal, here and with the wireless issue a while back. I'll start checking var.log on good systems too and get acquainted with what's healthy and what's not.by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Debian

What a long, strange trip it's been... on the main, semi-older desktop computer here, I tried everything mentioned here from USB installs, then installed them to a hard drive and kicked the tires... then bought a used quad core processor (and owe a kind friend 4 bucks lol), 3G RAM on board... And the winner is... Debian! Blows my major mind how good this runs. By comparison it's likeby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Absolutely, I'm okay if one computer is a fire-breathing dragon, but since 98% of my computer's time are spent on tasks that Plugs and Thins can handle, no sense running 100+ watts when 5-10 will do the job :-) If I can get Deluge working on Pogoplug (haven't tried yet) and IP tables squared away, E02 is ready for 24/7! Say gravelrash, do you run any kind of firewall or IPtableby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Although Mint and therefore Ubuntu run on my VIA vx900 Thin Client, Debian will only install and work with Terminal and Webmin over LAN. VIA offers drivers for the OS's listed above, and Debian drivers for their previous chipset. I've already done newb things in Grub's video line and XFCE4 and goodies installled. It just seems to be the driver that's lacking. So if yoby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Debian
As far as a ThinClient that will run Ubuntu-based Mint but will not get off the ground with any Debian flavor, for now I've decided to keep Mint XFCE as the primary USB install. Being cheap I only bought one stick (1G) of RAM making it 2Gb total. How does this fit into Pogoplug's world you might ask? Running at 1066 MHz is less processing than any Pogplug, and I've learned that eveby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic

Yeah the news... Quote Netgear told SEC that even with NetUSB functionality disabled through the router's configuration UI, the driver is still loaded, and there is no ability either to disable it or to block access to port 20005 in the firewall. Glad my Netgear router is 100Mbit with a built-in dog whistle and runs hot, or I'd be using it. A lot of questions get raised, sucby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Out of habit I go with Hotmail. I like the spam filtering better than the others I'd tried. For browser I use SRWare Iron, which is open-source Chrome with trackable identifiers removed. The issue seems to be chrome (Iron) says something is trying to take the "s" of https connections. It happened before I posted here but will check more in-depth next time. It's not that Iby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
In advance, I apologize for "spamming" and didn't want to post for a while. But there's a big problem in plain sight. For the moment i still use Windows x64 to check email and use the Win-centric apps. But many times if i have an instance of Linux running on the LAN, and check email with Windows, I get a message in the Chrome saying someone's trying to hack into my stuby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Got that incoming on the Thin Client, first time using Transmission.. maaan... if/when i get USB 3 sorted these USB plug OSs are going to be a great and wholesome hobby/way of life :-)by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
The day one of us gets a small, cheap SSD that works on the mPCIE slot is the day we all do I bet. Fast swap. I pulled both wirelesses out but never checked to see if any software is running that's associated with it - that'd be a waste if that's happening. Anyway I'll go to bed and get out of yer way :-)by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Wow wow wow... that Thin Client I'm crazy over is a 10ZiG 6772 - just bought a fast 32GB USB stick and put Mint on it - love it - I just have to add a USB 3 PCI card (there's a slot of that and a PCIe in a crazy place) and 4 GB RAM (they claim a RAM limit of 2GB but I've already run x64 Linuxes on it) and between that and the Pogos I'm not sure if i care about Desktop computerby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic

I can't tell you how good it feels to do command line stuff and have the knowledge of what's going on. Real paradigm shift. I'll try this ASAP but not now, as measuring twice is working for meby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
It's all part.. of my rock & roll fantasy You know what would increase the quality of my world 10-fold if not higher? To get away from this computer, go out in the yard with a laptop that has 30 minutes battery life and carry on where I left off on the desktop computer. Everything still on the main screen. Check email, edit Photoshop/Gimp, organize files, send an email etc. Come backby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Sure if you'd like to expound, no pressure. I've used most of those commands and have nothing against learning the proper methods. Truth be fully told, I'm not above foolproof methods either, like a way to insert stick into another Linux box and tar a drive image out of it. I'm just doing what I can, day to day; you know how things can get lazy in the summer.by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Over here I've been taking say, an Arch-E02 stick and plug it into a Windows machine with another USB stick that's unallocated. Use the freeware Partition Wizard and copy. This works quickly, but you're fairly limited to one destination. I've heard you all talk about making a TAR file out of an install, and think that sounds great - after all I could have a folder somewhereby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic

Another big thanks to you two though, for the idea - openWRT is a seriously cool project for the Pogoplug. I'll leave my one installation for a while, though DavyGravy's Mac/AFPD or Windows/SMB + Print services in a flash/NAND image project is tugging at my sleeve concerning the other PogoPro. There's things to love and loathe about OpenWRT and truth be told I haven't givenby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - uBoot
I would have just rolled my eyes and not said a word, but happened to log out of a Gmail account and see there's 15GB of free space forever there. Sure, they have other plans $2 and up per month, but still with a 15GB account I to wonder if you could make a GDrive out of a Pogoplug?by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
I used free and generalized off that. But htop, wow, neat! I put Mint on my favorite ThinClient and came here first, installed htop and thank you once again. It reminds me of a task manager it's so thorough. So that goes on all Pogoplugs next.by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
WyoGuy wow, that's so inspiring I think I read it five times over and wished you lived next door instead of the current meth lab lol For now could I ask more about the 3.3V sense wire? What's it do?by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic

I can see why people use a closet to locate the home network modems, routers, switches, power supplies and all that. I'd like to find some smallish metal box to do the same hardware on a desktop, and that wouldn't seem difficult to put together. But those high frequencies have short wavelengths and if my shielding knowledge is decent I'm not sure you could engineer it to be full shby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Neat stuff! I'll try to memorize the order for now. And I hate to get my hand stuck in the cookie jar asking more questions, but: 1. When I told Pogo "poweroff -h", the SATA appears to have spun down! If this is true, I'd like to get a jump start on power management and sleep/wakeup states. Is there already a place in Debian this is programmable? Two Pogoplug Pros here with numerical names based on IP address reservation: 102: OpenWRT internally 104: uboot barely made it on In both cases, they boot the recent Debian USB stick (those are exactly copies) and of course the 102 defaults to OpenWRT if the USB plug isn't there. So today i take a spare SATA drive and copy the Debian install over. SATA wouldn't boot on it's oby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - uBoot
